Can i run 2×6s through it

Asked by: MagicMan
Sure.. Cutter blades are 6 1/4 in. long. 2x6's are 5 1/2 in. wide so you have 3/4 in. of play to centre the stock over the blades. If you are using long 2 x 6's, you may need some help in passing the stock over the cutter head smoothly without any pauses.

how easy is it to change blades on jointer

how easy is it to change blades on the delta jointer 37-071
Asked by: hoho
This is from the instruction manual. Disconnect the machine from the power source before making any adjustments!Jointer knives are dangerously sharp. Use extreme caution when inspecting, removing, sharpening, or replacing knives into the cutterhead. Failure to comply may cause serious injury. The DELTA® 37-071 6” Bench Jointer uses two individual knives. Should you notice a significant decrease in the performance of your jointer, it may be necessary to replace the knives. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Place a scrap piece of wood between the spring-loaded cutter guard and fence in order to fully expose the cutterhead. 2. Carefully and slowly rotate the cutterhead by hand until the clamp bar and four clamp screws (A) are accessible. See Figure 19. 3. Unscrew the clamp screws and remove the clamp bar.Cutterhead knives are sharp. Use caution when handling cutterhead knives. Use gloves to reduce the risk of injury. 4. Carefully lift the knife from the cutterhead, taking care to note its proper orientation to the cutterhead. 5. Repeat Steps 2-4 for the second cutterhead knife. 6. Clean the cutterhead thoroughly before installing new knives or re-installing sharpened knives. 7. Install the new or re-sharpened knife and the clamp bar in the cutterhead. Slightly tighten each of the clamp screws, making sure to follow the sequence shown in Figure 20. NOTE: Failure to follow the proper sequence for tightening the clamp screws may result in the position of the knife being altered which can affect the performance of the tool. 8. Repeat Step 7 for the second cutterhead knife. 9. Check the alignment on the knives to the surface of the outfeed table as described in the section Align Cutterhead to Outfeed table, on page 10. If necessary, rotate the two jack screws on either end of the cutterhead knife in order to ensure the knife is parallel to the outfeed table. 10. Perform final tightening on each of the four clamp screws uses the proscribed sequence in Figure 19. 11. Remove the scrap wood block and return the cutterhead guard to original operating position. Re-align the fence as needed and test the jointer on a piece of scrap stock.

On assembly, the rough casting finishes and overall appearance gave me the impression of inferiority. Trying to put it together and going through the manual, my suspicions grew worse. The assembly instructions are not well illustrated or written - pointing you to wrong diagrams and missing some information. Wrong sized Hex screws are illustrated. After wrestling with the fence assembly I tried to adjust the fence to exactly 90º to the table. This was not easy as the fence locking assembly is difficult to use to say the least. But I got there in the end and tightened it as much as I dared. A few test pieces later though, I changed my mind about how good this jointer is. The results were quite impressive! I used a 10" length of plain old standard Doug. Fir 2 x 4 . I took about 1/16 " off all sides to make it square and true with very clean cuts... Quite impressive. The trick is to spend the time to set the fence *exactly* 90º. I don't think I'm going to move mine any time soon as it's perfect where it is! So - for just over $300 and about the cheapest jointer on the market, it's not that bad. It's a pain to put together and adjust, but its capable of producing some very good results.

The screw hole in the dowel clamp for the handle was drilled to overlap with the slot in the rear fence support such that the handle would not seat into the dowel clamp. The manual specifies certain screw sizes in the contents description, but specifies different screw sizes (i.e. not listed in the content description) when describing the assembly. Did no get far enough to assemble to try it out, but saw enough to deem the jointer inferior in manufacturing to return and purchase a different jointer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bench Top Jointer This jointer is very nice for a bench top jointer. I has a full cast iron top and fence which give the tool lots of weight (which makes it hard to move around if needed). It is very stable when it runs and has plenty of power. There is very little snipe once properly set up. I am very happy to own this in my small woodworking shop!
