Hi Rudy,
Thank you for your question about the FRP Single Threshold Shower Base. We do not recommend installing tile onto the base itself, however, you could tile the wall above the base if you were not using the matching wall set.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi,
Thank you for your question about the FRP Single Threshold Shower Base. It is recommended to use adhesive to secure the unit to the floor, but if the floor is not level and flat, then we recommend using a mortar base.
Thanks,
Nick

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not durable. Do not purchase! I installed one of these bases in a total renovation project and the pan cracked in a few months. After replacing it two weeks ago it cracked in the same place, along the inside edge. The second installation was done in a bed of mortar and it still cracked! Do not recommend!!!!!!! July 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Well Made First off, this web page says it is made of Acrylic, it is not. It's Abs plastic, the same stuff your black plastic house drains are made from. Secondly, its a mere 1/8" thick, very easy to crack and flex. Thirdly, the whole front, exposed threshold is so flimsy that if you were to tile up against it,and slightly smack your toes on it, it would cause the grout to crack because the ABS flexes so easily. For this price there are many other models which are much thicker (1/4") and made from other synthetic materials which are more durable. However, if you MUST install this, it should be set in a mountain of mortar, so much that if you knock on it, it will sound like you are knocking on your slab floor. This is especially so if you are setting this on a slab foundation...which i might ad, the instructions do not cover this type of install. Additionally, It should have stringer support against the wall too, the wide ledge is supported by the flange screwed into the wall. I make a good living replacing old fiberglass tubs because people stand on the ledge and crack it. Same will happen with this without stringer support. Also, if you install this in a slab, fill the big hole in the slab, provided for the P-trap, with concrete, and make sure you have support all the way to the drain. Bottom line, if it can flex, it will crack. Overall, ABS is not durable, you can scratch it with a sharp fingernail. And if you put tiled walls up, no way this base will out last the tile. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cracked shower base I got this shower base installed last summer by a licensed plumber. Used less than 15 times The whole base is now cracked! June 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality, easy to install I'm not sure why this base has bad reviews...I installed over the weekend (my first base), and had absolutely no trouble. I did quite a bit of research on installing shower pans, so was fairly prepared. Even though this base is decently solid, I still think it is a must to place a bed of mortar under the base, and I used a 60 pound bag of Quickrete sand/topping mix, which is very easy to work with. Place the bed of mortar and set the pan along with a level...I had to remove the pan several times to add mortar in some areas, and this base makes the process even easier, as the design underneath is imprinted into the mortar. Be sure to place a nice layer of mortar under each of the three black clips and make sure the base is truly solid and also make sure your chosen shower drain is large enough for this base, as I think the hole is maybe a little bit on the larger side, and thus not all drains will work with this base. One of the keys I feel is to avoid the solvent weld drains and go with one of the brass what I would call "slip on" drains that can be completed from the top, as it seems in my research this is why so many showers/pans have bad reviews...improper prep and poor drain installation will surely cause the shower base or drain to fail. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not durable This base is not at all durable. It was installed by a licensed contractor. The first day that I stepped in, I knew that I would be paying to replace it sooner rather than later. Well, when it cracked a few uses later it took no time at all to continue to crack. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cracked within 3 days After installing base, tiled walls, and glass enclosure, the base cracked at the drain within 2 showers. It was installed by licensed plumber on a solid, level base. Delta please inquire how you can remedy this problem. June 15, 2015
