Answer:
Yes, with a typical 3 1/2"-4" pipe that the shower head attaches to you can get near vertical with the ball fixture.

The handle has an arc to it so it won't stand in a completely vertical position for the shower head. If you lifted the hose onto a wall hook it might.
I bought this because it enables the shower head to be much higher in 2 bathrooms that are in a top floor dormer & basement with ceilings only 7 ft. The top of the shower arm comes out of the wall 9 1/2'' below the ceiling, but the bottom of the shower head spray area is an inch higher than that (6' 3 1/2"). Works great! I barely fit under the old conventional shower head at 5' 7". Now I get drenched from top to bottom, but do stand further away from it in 5 ft. shower stall.
If your ceilings are 8 ft. & shower arm @ 7 ft. you may be fine in a smaller space & the ball joint allows you
to position the handle more horizontally so the water flows down vertically from above.

Yes it will adjust a little bit but be careful, you must loosen the nut first or it may break the plastic. After you have it the way you want then tighten the nut firmly, I suggest by hand only.

Do not understand how this could happen. The holder has a tapered socket and the shower head has a taper on the handle. My suggestion is to take the holder and shower head to Home Depot and ask them about the problem.

Answer:
I don't have that problem with it falling out of the holder. It might just be a defective holder if it doesn't fit securely. If you like the performance of the shower head itself, take it back and exchange it for a new one. It's easy enough to install, mine fits "snugly".

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Let me say I rated AAAHHHHHHHHHHH 5 Stars. It Saves water with its Pause button and has Several settings For comfort and thorough Rinsing. It is Soothing to have the Extra power of the jets. October 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Problem fixed A few months after buying this product, the hose is leaking. I called customer service and told them about the problem, and they are mailing a new one to me, no questions asked. Thank you, Delta. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LOVE THIS SHOWER HEAD I bought this shower head and a more expensive one, I ended liking this one more (it was in the guest bathroom) so I returned the more expensive one. Great Product. Easy to change settings. October 4, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wet and wild Good quality and easy to install. The wife likes it so that's all that counts. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Unit with One Flaw These hand shower units are well made and provide a nice shower. Shower quality is really in the eye (or maybe hair?) of the beholder because people like various spray types and flow rates, but this one works well for us. We use it mostly mounted in its hanger bracket because it's an easy way to get a shower head about a foot away from the wall rather than only inches away, which makes getting under it much easier. It does also have a nice grip, however, so it's easy to hang onto and keep pointed in the direction you want it. The best feature from my perspective where other units fail is the stainless segmented hose that hangs very nicely, can't tangle unless you are trying to tie a knot in it, and applies no twist at all to the handheld unit when it use. Other cheaper units have a stiff hose that is very annoying to use; this one is very pleasant to use. The other real positive is it takes less than 60 seconds to install. The attachment is plastic but very sturdy and seals are made with o-rings, so moderate tightness by hand is all that's required. The only issue with this model and the reason for rating it four stars vs five is the on/off button on it (a "pause" function per Delta's description), which only slows the flow of water rather than stops it. We have two of Delta's model 54424, which are a little more expensive, but the button actually stops the water flow except for a trickle. This model allows a fair amount of water to keep flowing. This is not an issue for us since we rarely if ever use this function, but it may be an issue for others, especially elderly folks who are sitting while using this and want to temporarily turn the water off without reaching for the shower valve. Many other brands don't have this function at all, so if it's important to you, get the 54424. It has the same stainless hose, even a nicer grip, and a few more spray options as well. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Reasonable Purchase I really love functionally of this product and cost except for manufacturer does not currently offer a "replacement" part for the ball/knuckle assembly which seems to crack and thereon fly-off the rigid goose-neck piping from the wall. August 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this shower head! This shower head has every feature I could possibly think of. I love the push button spray selection and the pause button features instead of the dial like many other shower heads have. My last shower head got stuck on one spray and would no longer allow me to change the setting. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sleek style looks good in my bathroom love how I feel like I am getting full force pressure and actually saving water.I still feel clean and enjoy the flexibility of the pause button at hand and with its sleek style it looks good in my bathroom. May 15, 2016
