Customer Questions & Answers

Can you separate the light and fan into two wall switches.

Is it possible to do a separate switch for the light and one for the fan on this unit?
Asked by: Ruby
Yes, but the fan is so quiet I chose to have them on one switch, otherwise I might leave the fan run all the time.

Does this fan require ceiling access?
Asked by: Ceiling
We were remodeling and took down the old ceiling and put up a new one so we had access to the ceiling. If you have access to the wiring, should have no problem.

What size duct is it compatible with? If it's not compatible with mine how do I make it compatible? Thanks!

Asked by: JAP
I have a 3" duct in my ceiling and the fan has a 4" duct. I had to take the duct piece off the fan and take it to Lowe's to get a duct increaser which fit the 4" fan side, but the 3" side was the same size as my duct, so I had to take the duct piece off my old fan, cut the wide part off slip it on and the duct tape it all together and that worked. Home Depot does not have the right size duct, the were the same size as the fan duct and my ceiling duct.

I finally got around to installing this fan on 2/4/17 in our master bathroom. I purchased it as a replacement for an old noisy fan/light combo we had. The old fan was 2.5 Sones and seems terribly loud and the light was pretty dim on it. I did have to climb in our attic to remove the old fan as it was mounted using suspension brackets so had to install this unit using the suspension brackets provided. This fan fit almost exactly in the same hole as the previous fan and only had to make a very thin cut to one side of the hole. This fan has excellent bright LED lighting and the fan is so quiet, you hardly notice its on. It is functioning perfectly as far as venting out the steam in our bathroom when we shower and I estimate our bathroom cubic ft. area to be about 70 ft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bath fan We had this fan installed to replace an old builder grade fan that was very noisy. We also wanted to add more light in the bathroom which is why we chose this fan. The light on this fan is nice and bright. It is also very quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Worth It My husband and I are renovating our recently purchased modular home and finding a fan/light combo has been a challenge. We have no attic space and our roof joists aren't spaced the same as a traditionally built home. Needless to say our install wasn't quite as easy as we had hoped (based on other reviews and the product discription). We had to disassemble the fan and motor from the case/housing and cut into the drywall ceiling for the housing to slide into place. Placement of the holding tabs and screw holes to attach the unit to our only available joist also provided a fun challange (it'd be great if there were tabs and anchor points on more than one side of the housing for those whose access areas are on the opposite side). A trip or two on the roof was necessary, but expected, to attach the vent ducting and to do some creative securing of the housing. Our install definitely required some forethought. That said...when we wired it all up and flipped the switch we knew it was all worth it. The light is very bright and the fan is very quiet. A huge improvement from the cheap, loud fan that was there before that had no light and made taking a shower a creepy experience (like showering in a dark cave). The word "wow" was uttered everytime one of us entered the room for the first few days after install (we're still finishing up the reno). A FANtastic addition with great lighting. Who woulda thought we'd be so excited about a bathroom fan?!

The fan motor ramps up slowly and quietly and REALLY pulls the air out of our small powder room. The vent flap is in an easily detachable (black) plastic vent assembly. From past experience, it is the flap that often causes noise issues as the unit gets older. Being able to replace the flap or the whole plastic vent piece seems like it would be easy, especially if there is attic access to the unit. The only thing that I have to get used to is that the LED is in a module that would make replacement of the entire module a requirement. I can see this being a problem if the LED burns out somewhere down the road. The consolation there (hopefully) is that the LED will last for decades with moderate use and will probably outlast the fan component. One other thing I liked about the unit is that the wiring in the onboard junction box is MUCH, MUCH more accessible that another very fine unit from Panasonic (though that one had a heater, fan, light and night light) . The electrical piece of the installation was very smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LED Light Modules I'm replacing my bathroom ceiling fan light and after reading these questions & answers I just wanted to clarify: there is no actual light bulb in the sense that you folks are asking. Your concern was if it burns out, then replacing it is expensive. We consumers have experienced the revolution in lighting with the transition from incandescent bulbs to CFL, then to LED, and this new 'direct wire' module is the newest, longest-lasting and most affordable innovation in my own opinion. After you hardwire your electrical connections to power the unit, the fan has a simple plug that connect to the unit thereby providing power for the fan. The light is a module as mentioned in the answers posted here by HD,and it is connected directly to your power source when you connect your wiring. The module mentioned is sort of a flat reflective plate with multiple diodes implanted on it which collectively provide ample light. So there is no actual bulb to burn out. If the module burns out then it is almost as easy to replace as a bulb. But these new 'direct wire' light fixtures are designed to last for thousands of hours of use before burning out. Just trying to help.

Could be brighter in my opinion. The fan takes a bit to get up to speed, and im thinking that it may require some cleaning once in a while to make sure nothing gives it any resistance cause it seems like the fan motor is not very powerful, but moves pretty quick once its up to speed. The electrical hook up area is small as well but not a big deal. If it had a brighter light and a more responsive motor then i would have given this a full 5 stars.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No way 80 CFM bad moisture sensor Had this thing about 8 months. Within which my home was tested, specifically this fan for proper ventilation as part of an energy assistance program. Aside from barely hearing the thing turn on which is a good thing. It became more and more useless as time went on. It never reduced steam in a 60 sf bathroom which according to specs. 80 cfms should more than handle. I was disappointed to say the least. The only positive was the led light.
