How do I wire this to operate on one switch, I only have a black and a white wire and ground to connect to this to. Where does the red wire from the light get connected to?
Asked by: joellen
You need to install 3 wires that go to the light switch. If you know how to run wire from the fan through the ceiling, down the wall to the switch. I had a Electrician come out and give me an estimate to wire and install the fans for 2 bathrooms and he wanted $500.00. Too much money, So the light and fan are just wired to the fan only switch. Which works great anyway because I put LED bulbs in my vanity and that is bright enough without the fan on. The fan light is also bright.

It sounds as though the light bulb cannot be replaced when it burns out - is this correct?

Previous answer indicates that it is a special bulb - what do I do when it burns out? Will Greenbuilder replace the entire unit?
Asked by: Nurch
So when the LED light eventually burns out, if the LED unit is not available then I'll have to take down my ceiling to install a new unit?

I finally got around to installing this fan on 2/4/17 in our master bathroom. I purchased it as a replacement for an old noisy fan/light combo we had. The old fan was 2.5 Sones and seems terribly loud and the light was pretty dim on it. I did have to climb in our attic to remove the old fan as it was mounted using suspension brackets so had to install this unit using the suspension brackets provided. This fan fit almost exactly in the same hole as the previous fan and only had to make a very thin cut to one side of the hole. This fan has excellent bright LED lighting and the fan is so quiet, you hardly notice its on. It is functioning perfectly as far as venting out the steam in our bathroom when we shower and I estimate our bathroom cubic ft. area to be about 70 ft.

The fan motor ramps up slowly and quietly and REALLY pulls the air out of our small powder room. The vent flap is in an easily detachable (black) plastic vent assembly. From past experience, it is the flap that often causes noise issues as the unit gets older. Being able to replace the flap or the whole plastic vent piece seems like it would be easy, especially if there is attic access to the unit. The only thing that I have to get used to is that the LED is in a module that would make replacement of the entire module a requirement. I can see this being a problem if the LED burns out somewhere down the road. The consolation there (hopefully) is that the LED will last for decades with moderate use and will probably outlast the fan component. One other thing I liked about the unit is that the wiring in the onboard junction box is MUCH, MUCH more accessible that another very fine unit from Panasonic (though that one had a heater, fan, light and night light) . The electrical piece of the installation was very smooth.

My contractor installed my exhaust fan so I can't speak to the ease of installation but he said there were no complications. As far as the light/exhaust fan goes, I love it. The fan is so quiet I wonder if it at all works. I took a hot 15 mins. shower and sure I got some steam lingering in the bathroom when I was done but it cleared up in a couple of minutes and all my walls and ceiling was dry. Before the exhaust fan my walls would be wet for over half an hour and my ceiling was grossly wet with water drips. Yes, gross brown water on my ceiling and I would have to wipe it off with a towel. My new exhaust fan works beautifully and no more gross brown water drips from my ceiling. The light is nice and bright. I had the exhaust fan/light combo installed pretty close to my shower so this is the only light I use when I shower. It's nice that I don't have to turn on the other lights to shower anymore. So glad I bought this!!

I agree with the other reviews about the fan being quiet with a good capacity. The LED light is quite bright so the option to use a dimmer may be useful in a small bathroom. One comment about installation; this fan is primarily designed for new installations or installs with access to a ceiling from above. I had an installation into a blind hole with another ceiling above the primary one with made it a challenge. I was just able to make a hole to fit the unit from below in the finished ceiling which the light frame would cover. Also I had to cut off the mounting ears and make new holes in the top order to mount it to the ceiling above. This is not a criticism, just a suggestion to look the mounting options before you start.

Contractor put in fan and light not even a year ago, light already went out needed replacement what a piece of ? Lights not even something which would be on very much, only when taking a shower. Now , what do I do, try to order a replacement light part if I can or have to purchase the whole assembly knowing I can just unplug the light section discard the rest or save the fan assembly for the moment that part stops working. I'm a very disappointed customer.......... CJ Medina Den,Colo

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LED Light Modules I'm replacing my bathroom ceiling fan light and after reading these questions & answers I just wanted to clarify: there is no actual light bulb in the sense that you folks are asking. Your concern was if it burns out, then replacing it is expensive. We consumers have experienced the revolution in lighting with the transition from incandescent bulbs to CFL, then to LED, and this new 'direct wire' module is the newest, longest-lasting and most affordable innovation in my own opinion. After you hardwire your electrical connections to power the unit, the fan has a simple plug that connect to the unit thereby providing power for the fan. The light is a module as mentioned in the answers posted here by HD,and it is connected directly to your power source when you connect your wiring. The module mentioned is sort of a flat reflective plate with multiple diodes implanted on it which collectively provide ample light. So there is no actual bulb to burn out. If the module burns out then it is almost as easy to replace as a bulb. But these new 'direct wire' light fixtures are designed to last for thousands of hours of use before burning out. Just trying to help.

Replaced a builder original 2.5 sone model with this and the noise difference is huge. Replacement was pretty easy, but I had to mount it using the screw holes on the wall of the housing - using the recommended holes would have required a larger hole in the ceiling. It's plenty sturdy this way.
