I will be doing a wall mount. Is there a cap or something for the exterior that helps keep precipitation out (and possibly reduces cold air intrusion from winter blowing)?

Answer:
this unit is usually mounted between studs, so I assume you will have outer and inner walls on the studs.
that said, the unit has an exhaust port that will connect to a vent plate on the exterior via a flex tube. You can then put insulation around the unit keeping out the cold air.

Slim 50 CFM Wall/Ceiling Exhaust Fan is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Replacement for Noisy Fans My wife and I retired and moved to Panama in 2014. The bathroom exhaust fans purchased locally were extremely noisy and the electricians saw fit to put the bathroom light and fan on the same circuit (so no possibility of having the light on without the fan). I purchased the Delta Breez fans because they are the same dimensions as the previous fans, and had a low sone rating (1 vs. 6 sones for the fans they replaced). Installation was straightforward and we are now enjoying the quiet. Although the fan can be heard, it is very unobtrusive. 50 CFM is not quite adequate in terms of air change, but getting higher capacity would have required a larger fan and a more difficult installation. Overall very happy with this purchase.

Installed very easily as a replacement for a very noisy fan. It might be possible to install it without going into the attic, but I had to go up anyway to tear the old one out. It's not dead quiet like the .4 soan that I installed in my wife's bathroom. You can hear a soft whistle when there's no water running, but the terrible motor sound from the old 4 soan is gone. Thought about giving it a 4 star because it's not dead quiet, but it doesn't make that claim.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quiet exhaust fan I bought two fans as replacements for the noisy contractor fans installed when the house was built in 1978. Noise level is much improved! The fans fit into the existing openings easily, and instructions for installation were very clear. I chose this brand for the 1.0 sone rating and for the 3 inch duct size that matched the old fans. (Most replacement fans that I compared come with 4 inch ducts.) I should have replaced those old fans years ago!

The size was essentially the same, so the replacement was straightforward, but not effortless. Removing the old fan without going into the attic takes some work. I have had the fan installed for about two weeks. It works as promised--not whisper quiet but certainly a significant improvement. A good value for the money.

Maybe I have a defective product, but this fan is much noisier than I had expected. A sound meter app on my phone measured this at 65 dB. Otherwise, the installation process was as expected. I was able to replace an old Braun fan with this one and didn't need to enlarge the hole in my ceiling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a powder room Replaced a builder grade (aka cheap) and noisy exhaust fan in our powder room. Had to find a small enough fan of same dimensions and this Delta Breez Slim fit the bill perfectly. Very quiet, well-priced and relatively easy to install. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good deal Very good product. It is quiet, however after this fan was ducted with two 90 degree turns, it is a little louder because of the air resistance. Still a good fan and good deal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet and effective This is lower powered exhaust fan, but it is both very quiet and effective at drawing out odors and humidity from our small bathroom. Works great!
