I will be doing a wall mount. Is there a cap or something for the exterior that helps keep precipitation out (and possibly reduces cold air intrusion from winter blowing)?

Answer:
this unit is usually mounted between studs, so I assume you will have outer and inner walls on the studs.
that said, the unit has an exhaust port that will connect to a vent plate on the exterior via a flex tube. You can then put insulation around the unit keeping out the cold air.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I purchased two of these items and they worked great and are very quiet! I purchased two of these items and they worked great! August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very quiet fan Bought this to replace the rickety old Broan installed by the builder, which vibrated throughout our entire house. This one is much quieter and smoother. It's so quiet that when I first turned it on, I thought that it was not installed properly because it wasn't making enough noise. I plan to buy more to replace all of the other exhaust fans in the house. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice fan I tested this fan upon arrival, and it is very quiet. Fan is now installed, (easy install), and awaiting final sheetrock. I will final review at that time for function, quiet, and reliability. July 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It is what we needed We needed a 3" duct size, and wanted it to be as quiet as possible. It is much quieter than the original exhaust fan. It takes about 8-10 seconds to reach full speed, but that is probably needed to get the energy efficiency rating. Easier to install than it was to remove the old fan. Instructions were good. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy to install This was to replace a noisy bathroom fan. It met my expectations. It is not silent but you can barely hear it outside the closed door. April 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, quiet fan Easy to install. Wires, after connection to house current, including ground wire, tuck neatly into the corner of the fan for safety. Exhaust was easy because the fitting easily slid into and out of the fan housing. Will buy another for my other bathroom. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by happy with product I purchased this fan for my new bathroom and installed it with ease. I wanted something quite and this fan fit my needs. It also has a very small indicator light to let me know when it is running. The extra cost was well worth the money. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Why did I wait?!! Finally remodeling my home. That old fan drove me nuts for 14 years! Why did I wait so long to look for something quieter? Took me longer to get the old unit out than it did to install this one. Nice and quiet. February 10, 2016
