Customer Questions & Answers

can you verify that the Slim 70 CFM wall/ceiling exhaust fan can be installed through wall?

My contractor has asked me to confirm that the Delta Slim 70 CFM wall/ceiling exhaust fan can be installed through wall. This is for a small attic bathroom. The description says wall/ceiling but the picture indicates a ceiling installation. Please confirm through wall installation is possible and whether there are any issues with through wall installation.
Asked by: 225heehaw
Yes, I emailed the manufacturer through their web site before I purchased this fan and they responded within 24 hours that it is indeed good for wall application. It should be installed with the discharge opening facing up so that the damper functions properly.

How effective is the backdraft on this while wall mounted to the outside?

I am looking for a fan to wall mount to exhaust the steam from the bathroom. But, I need one that can keep out the cold of an upstate NY winter. Would this be effective at keeping out the cold air or is there another wall mounted fan you would recommend? I would be hiring someone to install the unit for me.
Asked by: Jay
I installed this in the wall area of a skylight in my bathroom. With it up that high I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of the damper because if there is indeed any backdraft it's too high up to feel, but I can report that I can actually hear the damper flip open when the fan comes on. Per an email I sent to the manufacturer before I purchased this, for a wall-mounted application the unit should be installed with the discharge opening facing up for proper damper operation.

I saw in some comments that the 50 CFM model cannot be used with an electronic timer. Can this model be used with an electronic timer?

Asked by: Jon
Hi Jon, Delta Breez fans can be use with electronic timer switches that are compatible with DC motor. Here are a few models we tested and confirmed compatibility: Leviton LTB60-1LZ, Woods 59007, Tork D1060MW.

It was very easy to install and does a great job keeping the bathroom totally fog free during the shower. It is not whisper quiet inside the bathroom but, I can hardly hear it outside with the bathroom door closed. Just a word of warning when you are removing the old fan. specially if it was installed when the house was built. Because it may not be easy to remove. Mine was screwed to the duct above the ceiling so, in the process of removing the old fan, I did substantial damaged to the ceiling around the edges. Fortunately, the fan cover is large enough to cover the damage.

Asked a question about the wall application on the manufacturer's web site and got a response within 24-hours, so I was pleased about that too. At 2 scones, this is a much quieter fan than the bargain level 4-sone fan and at 70 cfm the steam build-up in the bathroom from showering is reduced and clears out faster than the previous 50cfm fan that was originally installed (this may also be helped by the fact that I moved the location to the side wall of the skylight). For us it was well-worth the effort of the install and drywall patch and at this price.

The instructions were easy to follow and very accurate. When I read the sound rating, I had no idea what it meant, however, I am happy to report that it is very quiet, as compared to my original bath fan assy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Replacement Fan I would not recommend this product for a full bath to remove stream and moisture. It is perfect for a small guest bathroom. I replaced a half bath fan with this product. The fan I replaced was a 39 year old Nutone. It did not quite fit the hole in the ceiling that I removed the old fan from. A 3 inch gap remaind. I centered the fan in the middle of the hole and used insulating foam to fill in the gaps. The grill that came with this new fan was big enough to cover the old hole beautifully without needing to repair the ceiling. The fan is quiet enough to only hear it running in the bathroom. Once I close the door you would never know that it is on. Much better than the old fan that you could hear all through the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality fan, maybe not 2 sones I bought this fan because it was a great deal for a 2 sones fan, and also because the box dimensions were the same as the one I was replacing. I still had to install the new box (accessing it through the attic--ugh) which was a pain, but at least I didn't have to cut drywall! After wiring it up and everything, installing the fan into the box and putting the cover in place took about 30 seconds. Way easy. The fan is much quieter than my old 4 sones fan but I have a hard time believing it's 2 sones. I would guess 2.5, but then what do I know? It is a really nice, high quality fan though. We've been really pleased!
