can you verify that the Slim 70 CFM wall/ceiling exhaust fan can be installed through wall?

My contractor has asked me to confirm that the Delta Slim 70 CFM wall/ceiling exhaust fan can be installed through wall. This is for a small attic bathroom. The description says wall/ceiling but the picture indicates a ceiling installation. Please confirm through wall installation is possible and whether there are any issues with through wall installation.
Asked by: 225heehaw
Yes, I emailed the manufacturer through their web site before I purchased this fan and they responded within 24 hours that it is indeed good for wall application. It should be installed with the discharge opening facing up so that the damper functions properly.

can pvc be used to duct fan through the roof, how many inches above the roof does the fan need to be, does the vent require a cap
Asked by: bigbubbadoe
Thank you for your inquiry. PVC may be used to exhaust to the roof; however, we recommend to check the local building code. The unit requires 18" of straight run before going up to the roof. Next, Using a cap is optional, it depands on your applications. Why does the green light blink?

The fan at times runs without putting power on
Asked by: Duke
My green light is constant only when the switch is on. It has never run without the switch being turned on.

Pros: -Piece of cake to install from inside the bathroom, if you can replace a light fixture you can install this little guy. -Updated grill design is nice and modern (could be a touch thinner) -Worlds better than the horrible train wreck sound of our old fan -I like the slow ramp up it does when it turns on -Immediately gets all the moisture out of our bathroom when the doors are open (before it would take about a half hour without a fan) -Delta has given us awesome customer service in the past on other products, very happy their product was the best fit for our wall fan replacement in our 117 year old house Cons: -Only reason I docked a star: the 80CFM is .6 sones, the 50CFM is 1 sone, why is this 70CFM TWO SONES? =( I'm not saying 2 sones is terrible, it's definitely not, I just can't understand why this fan is 2-3 times louder than the fans above and below it. I'm sensitive to sounds and I would call this fan noticeable but not at all annoying, the sound won't stop me from using it, and I'm happy it's available to replace the dinosaur of a fan we had before. -This does a good job of working in our 8.5' x 7' x 9' ceiling bathroom. I did order the 80CFM originally but our old house wasn't easily accommodating to make the existing hole big enough, so we bumped down to this one. During my very scientific shower test it did take much longer for the mirrors to get foggy, they fogged completely by end of the shower, and we still had a couple condensation drips on our walls, which we were really hoping the fan would prevent. Once out of the shower, the fan was very slow at defogging the mirrors—watching the grass grow, slow. However, once I opened the doors on our jack and jill bathroom, the mirrors almost instantly cleared when before it would've taken quite a while without a fan. Typically we shower with the doors open anyway so B+ on really putting it to the test, A+ on the daily use scenario. Overall, this fan is hands down the go-to pick if you need to replace an old in-wall fan.

One asthetic problem keeps me from recommending it. Two sets of spring wires hold the grill in place. One set does not hold the grill tight against the ceiling because when the wires are inserted through the respective guides, they are blocked from complete insertion by an obstruction inside the housing. That end of the fan grill is not tight against the ceiling. Either I have a defective unit or no one ever actually tried to install the finished fan.

I installed this unit as a replacement for an existing wall mounted fan. Biggest gripe is the outlet is so close to the front edge of the housing that if you mount the housing flush with the drywall you have to cut a notch in the drywall to attach the vent pipe. Also a couple of pre punched holes in the side to facilitate mounting screws from the inside would be appreciated. No big deal I just made them myself but it would have been nice if they were already there. Lastly the grille though nice and clean looking sticks out too far. Would have and could have been made better if just a little flatter for a more flush appearance. None the less very pleased with this fan. Would definitely recommend to someone else.

Well made and easy to install. Actual installation mounting instructions could be better though. The dimensions are correct but the stud mounting brackets are wider. The vent cover is large enough to accommodate a larger hole but the housing doesn't require it. If you have the ceiling clearance, turn the unit sideways and go all the way up and into the ceiling then turn the unit. The motor assembly is easily removed with 3 screws. I used the 3 holes in the housing to mount to the stud and the housing bendable tabs to level it on the top of the drywall. Some people think it's too quiet for bathroom noises but there's still a fan noise. The 70 cfm fan is a nice upgrade to. I can feel airflow coming into the room under the door which helps keep the small guest toilet room cooler.

Quiet and aesthetically appealing. The only thing I would ask is, have the inspectors make sure they know where they put the moisture control packet. The packet in my box ended up in the space with the fan. Not good when we turned in on. Had to troubleshoot the odd sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So quiet I bought these for our powder room and commode . I had put two breez fans with led lights in the main baths and loved them. These match perfectly and fit the existing hole . Win, win.
