I installed the original faucet and kept the instructions. You may disassemble the faucet. You will see a plastic disc. This is needed for the no scald feature. Note the color. In the store there were two similar cartridges, the grey one and another color depending on the model. In my case it was the grey one.

Answer:
it does a fair job of controlling the temp' if your hot water supply is sufficient. how ever if your water heater is small or inefficient, the water temp' will start to get cold the longer you run your shower or tub water.

Thank you for your question. This cartridge is to be used with Delta 13-series or 14-series shower systems. It is a single-function pressure-ballance cartridge that controls only the temperature of the water. This information is listed in the "Description" field under the product image.

How difficult is it to install?

Our house is 16 years old, about 5 years ago, we had a plumber change out this part, it didn't work, I think he forgot to do whatever to control the water temp., so he had to come back and fix it. Now we are getting water temperature fluctuations and I think it's this valve again. I have a neighbor who does maintenance work for a brewery and I know he would help me get this changed out, since he plumber was a very expensive proposition for our senior budget.

Answer:
If he did everything correct and if the correct mixer cartridge was installed, you may have some calcium debris that is blocking the small inlets in the back of the mixer valve. May want to have a professional plumber remove mixer valve and purge the hot and cold water lines that feed that faucet?

Answer:
Thank you for your question. If your faucet is 16 years old the correct replacement cartridge should be the RP19804. To change the cartridge you will need to first shut off the water supply to the faucet. You will then have to remove the handle, trim sleeve, and finally the bonnet nut to access the cartridge. A person used to doing maintenance work should be able to handle the replacement.
Thanks,
Dave

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It worked, The key to success with this bathroom shower repair is to find an unopened package. I purchased the same product from another retailer, but the package of every cartridge was opened. That should have been a red flag. I purchased one from the other store and it leaked as much as the one I was looking to replace. I returned it and headed to Home Depot where I bought one that worked. If this replacement part works the first time, no need to return it to the store. Not much else to say other than it worked (note to read the side of the cartridge so you place the hot side on the hot side) June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delta cartridge replacement The cartridge was easy to replace and fixed an annoying drip. Delta is the best! April 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Availabel in store We thought this piece came with the valve, but it did not and we needed two of them ASAP as we had our water off. Home Depot had this in stock and we were only with out water for a couple of hours. April 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Repairing cartridge with Delta parts You can rebuild this cartridge very easily. Just buy the Delta RP4993 Seats and Springs from Home Depot for $3.97. The cartridge comes apart by twisting CCW. Replace the old seats and springs and you have a new cartridge. Quick and easy. April 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Product Ever Got my bathroom remodel. Got this part for a shower faucet and it' doesn't let me go toward to hot. It blocks this option only letting you stay at warm or cold .Which only produce warm water. Very unsatisfied. April 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by failed within 2 months replaced the original cartridge (perhaps 8 yrs old) due to a persistent drip. Replaced with this model. Very easy installation. But, 2 months later it failed - no water at all. Removed, tapped it a few times thinking perhaps grit had fouled the intact. Reinstalled and still nothing. Removed again, tapped it a few times, reinstalled. This time water flowed freely - but wouldn't shut off! Don't know what the internal mechanism is that controls on/off, but sure seems like that's what failed. So, another 50mile round trip to purchase another one. Wonder how long this will last? I guess I should have spent an additional $40 to have a spare for when the newest one fails. As far as I know, this is the only cartridge replacement for the Delta shower control - I wouldn't recommend this specific product, but what else are you gonna use. Delta has us over the barrel...
