Customer Questions & Answers

How difficult is it to install?

Our house is 16 years old, about 5 years ago, we had a plumber change out this part, it didn't work, I think he forgot to do whatever to control the water temp., so he had to come back and fix it. Now we are getting water temperature fluctuations and I think it's this valve again. I have a neighbor who does maintenance work for a brewery and I know he would help me get this changed out, since he plumber was a very expensive proposition for our senior budget.

I didn't realize until after I had all this typed up, your question posted over a year and a half ago. I hope your problem has been resolved. If your valve is anything like mine, (mine is only 6 years old), I have a small set screw (not sure of the exact size) behind the handle. It's a bugger to get to, but you don't have to take it out, only loosen it. This set screw holds the handle to the cartridge. Once the handle is pulled off, there is a dress ring around the outside of the cartridge, slide that off. Then there is a brass ring that threads on to hold the cartridge in place, remove this using either a small "oil filter" wrench or strap wrench, or large mouth adjustable pliers; mine wasn't tight enough to need either of these, maybe you will be as lucky. At that point, the cartridge slides straight out. Mine was quite snug due to the leaky cartridge had caused calcium build up around the cartridge, so I had to wiggle it up and down as I pulled out on it. If you twist on the cartridge counter clockwise, it will likely twist in 2 (to present access to a pair of inner seals). This MAY be all your issue is. These seals are definitely cheaper to replace than the cartridge. If you're set on replacing the cartridge, I personally like the thought of replacing the whole thing with new, and know I won't have to tear back into it for a few years for another issue. Good Luck

Does this insert have temp control function

Where do i see the answer

it does a fair job of controlling the temp' if your hot water supply is sufficient. how ever if your water heater is small or inefficient, the water temp' will start to get cold the longer you run your shower or tub water.

I installed this item but can't get the hot water to hot--only lukewarm!

Open up faucet and reset the cartridge by gently pulling it out, turning it in the direction to allow more temperature according to the instructions and reinserting it. Close the faucet and test.

Did not last, purchased Feb. 2016 and replaced Nov. 2016. The small plastic piece on the cold inlet came off. After a few months the valve caused a banging effect within the plumbing when the valve was in a position for warm water. Full 'Hot', ok, Full cold, ok, but anything in between and 'Bang', 'Bang' 'Bang'. The temperature setting mechanism and handle stop are poor in operation. Don't bother with this valve unless you are in a 'need it now' situation. Bought a genuine Delta valve, WOW what a difference. Buy genuine replacement parts and forget the headache this valve will cause you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Replacement! Completely stopped my leaky faucet. Only a couple tools required and I had it replaced and working in less than 10 minutes. I will rebuild my old cartridge, for when this one goes to leaking; 6 years isn't bad though. The inner seals are MUCH cheaper; I just hated to tear into my old cartridge and end up breaking it, then having to have the water shut off until I obtained a new cartridge. (The cartridge has a twist lock to split it in 2 to get to the inner seals) I couldn't find this information anywhere! All I could find was how to replace the cartridge. The part works as I expected, it was just more than I expected to spend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Repairing cartridge with Delta parts You can rebuild this cartridge very easily. Just buy the Delta RP4993 Seats and Springs from Home Depot for $3.97. The cartridge comes apart by twisting CCW. Replace the old seats and springs and you have a new cartridge. Quick and easy.
