How difficult is it to install?

Our house is 16 years old, about 5 years ago, we had a plumber change out this part, it didn't work, I think he forgot to do whatever to control the water temp., so he had to come back and fix it. Now we are getting water temperature fluctuations and I think it's this valve again. I have a neighbor who does maintenance work for a brewery and I know he would help me get this changed out, since he plumber was a very expensive proposition for our senior budget.

I didn't realize until after I had all this typed up, your question posted over a year and a half ago. I hope your problem has been resolved. If your valve is anything like mine, (mine is only 6 years old), I have a small set screw (not sure of the exact size) behind the handle. It's a bugger to get to, but you don't have to take it out, only loosen it. This set screw holds the handle to the cartridge. Once the handle is pulled off, there is a dress ring around the outside of the cartridge, slide that off. Then there is a brass ring that threads on to hold the cartridge in place, remove this using either a small "oil filter" wrench or strap wrench, or large mouth adjustable pliers; mine wasn't tight enough to need either of these, maybe you will be as lucky. At that point, the cartridge slides straight out. Mine was quite snug due to the leaky cartridge had caused calcium build up around the cartridge, so I had to wiggle it up and down as I pulled out on it. If you twist on the cartridge counter clockwise, it will likely twist in 2 (to present access to a pair of inner seals). This MAY be all your issue is. These seals are definitely cheaper to replace than the cartridge. If you're set on replacing the cartridge, I personally like the thought of replacing the whole thing with new, and know I won't have to tear back into it for a few years for another issue. Good Luck

Does this insert have temp control function

Where do i see the answer
Asked by: Anonymous
it does a fair job of controlling the temp' if your hot water supply is sufficient. how ever if your water heater is small or inefficient, the water temp' will start to get cold the longer you run your shower or tub water.

When I initially installed it the shower head leaked quite a bit more than the existing cartridge which puzzled and frustrated me. After a brief break in the action I thought about "what if there is some build up in the brass or something in there that must be not allowing the cartridge to fully seat or seal". Sure enough there was some calcification present which I gently scraped out, then re-installed the new cartridge. Shower no longer leaks. It's been installed for probably 3 weeks or so now.

The cartridge needs better markings and direction so that you avoid putting it in backwards. This type of delta faucet can be mounted with the hot on the left or right just put cartridge in the right way to adapt.

One for showers prior to 94 and one after. Suffice it to say neither is for my shower so I returned it. I did find online the 17 Series Cartridge Adapter which is usually the part that goes bad in these showers and purchased two online. I just picked it up yesterday so I cannot review if this product stopped my leaky shower.
