it's designed for what is usually listed as 4-hole applications. that is 3-holes for the faucet itself, and a 4th hole for the detached sprayer.
if you have a 3-hole setup, you may be able to modify the hose connections to get rid of the detached sprayer, but it doesn't look like it's meant to be used that way out-of-the-box.

if you have a 5-hole sink you can plug up the 5th hole, or use it for a separately purchased built-in soap or filtered water dispenser.
if you only have 1-hole for the faucet itself, you probably want to get a different faucet. the base is technically removable, but i wasn't able to get it off when i tried. so i can't say for sure whether or not the faucet could be installed in a single hole.
[note: i don't have the original box or instructions, it may in fact come with instructions or gaskets for installing in a single hole; or parts to make it work without the detached sprayer] Read Less

The standard 3 holes spaced 4 inches apart are required. Plumbing goes up thru the middle hole, the outside ones to fasten it.

Answer:
The faucet sits in the standard 3 hole cutout - all the pipes go through the center hole, and the two side holes are for stability. It would be a little stiffer if the center hole also had a nut on it like other brands do. the sprayer requires a fourth hole off to one side.

the faucet handle on my current faucet has to be in a very specific position or the water drips; I want a faucet where you just pull the handle forward and the water flow stops.

I own this faucet and I find this exact feature to be extremely annoying. I find it hard to imagine that people would prefer a faucet with "Center Off" design. Maybe to some people, a kitchen looks more orderly with the kitchen faucet handle ALWAYS at dead center? Oh, the horror of a kitchen faucet handle off center....
There are faucets which do shut off at any position. I know people who have such faucets and i will be shopping for one soon. (but not likely to choose Delta, of course....)
Good luck with it. Read Less

Was putting this faucet in, but the screwlock nuts won't fit under my sink. They are too wide and I have a very narrow space between sink and the wall. I can get them on part way, but they push the faucet out too far, I can put my finger between the faucet and in the hole in the back.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality faucet Seems to be a decent quality faucet, though I installed it in the garage where it gets infrequent use. Nothing overly flashy about it, but easy installation. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent purchase The faucet was a fairly simple install. looks and performance are great. Faucet and side spray have great pressure. Overall I'm very satisfied with the purchase. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Delta faucets are great value. . We use them in our 240 unit apartment complex. Quality and dependability make them a great value. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fit the needs and looks great Easy to assemble, looks great. For the price paid, I am completely satisfied. May 31, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I like it but it leaked after 1 day so unless you are a contortionist....... I disagree with many of the reviews in that visually at least, (to me) I like it and it works fine as far as the handle and the sprayer go, BUT IT LEAKED after 1 day right where the lines go in at the base and had to be redone. I would say any product can have an issue from time to time, but it appears I am not alone, and this is certainly not the most expensive but it is far from the cheapest, so I find any problem like this which SEEMS TO HAVE SOME LEVEL OF CONSISTENCY, completely unacceptable. This thing takes a contortionist to get in and out, and while I am going to try an exact replacement I am already now, solely because of this, soured on Delta although I have loved them for years. If the new one is no good I am done with them. If the new one works I am still quite unhappy at having to redo this when I am sure it is nothing but trying to save a few pennies in manufacturing, BUT if the new one fails as well, livid will be the word. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to set up It took 30 minutes to pull the old Faucet and about 10 to set this one up with no leaks or issues. great product May 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kitchen faucet replacement This Delta faucet was easy to install once the old corroded one was removed. The instructions were easy to follow and helpful. Water lines attached first try with no leaks. It looks good and was reasonably priced. May 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Only had it for 1 Day.........and it seems great ! I've had two Moen faucets which were the same design but had problems with them leaking and not turning easily(swiveling) after a short period of time. I bought this on today and it seems to be so much better ! Time will tell. March 16, 2016
