Customer Questions & Answers

can this grab bar (Delta Crestfield 18" in bronze) go IN the shower and get wet? Will it rust?

Asked by: martha
My Experience is that the stanchions will corrode in a wet location. I only have experience with one to compare but it has corroded badly and I need to find a more durable replacement.

why can't the plumbing industry make this a 16" grab bar so it can go into 2 studs?

Asked by: martha
They cant make it 16" because they are engineers and are stupid when it comes to common sense. Why would they recommend "toggle bolts" for one end, one would only guess a stud would make a stronger mount.

How well does the Venetian bronze finish hold up after months or a couple years time in the shower/bath?

Asked by: Schindlerkins
The tube holds up but the stanchions corrode in less than a year.

Crestfield 1-1/4 in. x 18 in. Concealed Grab Bar in Venetian Bronze is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delta Crestfield 18" Grab Bar The grab bar looks good and was easy to install. The problem is to make it really secure it must be mounted to studs. Since most studs are spaced at either 16 or 24 inch on-center an 18 inch bar is tough to make really secure. To cancel this out I mounted it to 2 studs but at an angle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Already showing hard water damage erosion on ends Have 3 of these hung vertically in my shower. Each bar above the lowest ball end is showing hard water damage. When cleaning with vinegar, the damage won't come off - it seems to be eroding the bar. I even have a ScaleBlaster for hard water. All 3 have been on less than 10 mos and 2 of them have only been on a month. Hired installation - can't speak to ease. Does Delta or Home Depot warranty this?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality product, very sturdy and looks fantastic with other fixtures. Looks great. Matches my venetian bronze fixtures perfectly. Only issue was installation instructions did not include details for mounting on porcelain tile which requires a diamond tip drill bit. It only referred to ceramic tile installation which uses a carbide tip bit. Once I found the correct type of bit from my local tile shop, installation was quite simple.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for wet areas Price was reasonable and looked good when new but the stanchions are made of some sort pot metal (think zinc) and the plating did not did not protect it. They started to pit after about a month which to my mind is far too soon. In a dry location it would be fine. The extruded tube holds up well but the package as a whole is not what one would normally expect from Delta.
