Answer:
The screws supplied are stainless steel. I used it at the entrance of my shower more as a "keep your balance" bar than anything else. Do an internet search for ADA shower/grab bar requirements and the proper length and size bars for different shower locations can be found. I also used a 24 inch bar in the shower.

Answer:
Yes, behind the head mount there is a plastic retainer screw. It can be loosened and the bar removed. I loosened it to make sure the bars were fully inserted into the head unit.

Answer:
Yes, but it must be assembled before it is screwed to the wall because the assembly screws are on the side which will be against the wall.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Safety This small hand grab bar for the bath is the perfect size. Shiney chrome finish, easy install. This fits large and small hands to grab on the way out of the shower for safety. I highly recommend a grab bar to exit any shower. I am surprise they are not yet mandated for safety. See http://www.twillmill.com/2016/07/23/bath-remodel-2016/ for more pics. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Add a star to earlier review. In an earlier review I noted that the instructions were not clear about the number of screws that were needed. I stand corrected because there is a note that at least 2 screws should be used when attaching to the studs. I have changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. October 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 9 inch assit bar will do the job Installed two 9-inch grab bars with one at the entrance to a shower and the other at a bath tub. They went on easily in a vertical position with 3 screws at each end in one and 2 screws at each end in the other, and I believe they could hold my 6' 4' frame and a 240 pound weight in a slip or fall. The instructions seem to imply (lack of clarity in the instructions) that only 1 screw is required at each end. Each screw hole was pre-drilled through the ceramic and backer board with a diamond bit and a deeper, smaller hole continued into the stud. Because of stud location it was only possible to get 2 screws to bite into the stud on each end and one of the 3 holes was left open on each end (no screw); and 1 of those 2 screws at each end was angled to get a bite into the stud. Since I was going through ceramic tile I chose not to drill a hole through the tile and put the last screw in for what would have been purely aesthetic reasons so there is a missing screw - but there is not an open hole for water to enter. Quality got 3 stars because the rounded entrance for the rods into the screw/head portion of the holder were not smooth and clear of manufacturing defects. The defects did not hurt anything so I used them as we needed them now. Before installing, the plastic rod-retention screw was loosened in each head unit and a check was made to see if the rod was all the way in the head unit; and they all were. Overall, happy with the bars, their look and ease of installation. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product. Just the right thing for me. This was used for storm door. It works perfectly. My elderly dad uses it for support when leaving our house. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking and does the job at the same time! This was one of several of these that I bought to install in my in-laws home to assist my father-in-law with getting around. It is a very nice bar and it is perfect for the job! August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid great purchase I am disabled, and these are by far the cheapest, most stylish and solid handles on the market. Have used for years, totally recommend. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great very easy install Great easy install A great help in getting off the toliet Thank You April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very strong grab bar Mother-in-Law needs help in & out of shower, sorry but not by me. This takes my place. Comes with 6 #10 wood screws 2 1/2 inch long. Make sure you pre drill 7/32 hole or the screws might break on you. The screw holes are 1 1/2" apart so you may need to slightly angle at least one hole to guarantee all 3 are in the stud. With all 3 screws in a stud this is a very solid hand hold. Will stabilize even a large Mother-in-Law. September 26, 2013
