Must rough-in kit always be purchased?

I am just replacing the existing trim. Is a rough-in kit purchase required? Is that different from the cartridge? I have the original cartridge from pre-2006 and have been told that is the one I need to use but I'm now confused with all the talk of the rough-in kit that seems to be required.

Hi DP,
Thank you for your question and I apologize for your confusion. Since you have a valve prior to 2006, you can still use your current valve but you can only use the Delta Faucet model # T17478-SS trim if you had a 1700 series trim in the wall before this. You will need to keep the old cartridge as the new cartridge that is included with your new trim will not fit in your older valve. If you need Read More

The installation instructions talk about soldering. Is soldering required when I'm simply replacing my existing faucet/spout/shower head and arm?

Answer:
Hi DP,
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # T17478-SS will not need to be soldered if you are just replacing the trim and not the valve. If you have to replace the valve too with model R10000-UNBX, then you will need to solder the valve to the supply lines.
Thanks.

I have looked online for the replacement part but I could not find the piece anywhere. The part looks like a washer and is shaped like a black doughnut inside of the faucet spout . If you could tell me what this part is called and where I could purchase it. Thank you.

One review notes that the faucet is plastic; is this true? The product description says brass.

Answer:
Hi Kaki,
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # T17478 has both metallic and non-metallic parts. The showerhead and tub spout are non-metallic. Everything else outside the wall is metal.
Thanks.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement for original We used two of these combinations to replace 23 year old Delta trim kit that came with our house. With a few additional parts we were able to the valve and all of the polished bronze trim with this darker bronze to go with the new counters and faucets in the bathrooms. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product We had an outdated Delta trim kit for our shower. I ordered this online and it came just a few days later. It took me about an hour to uninstall the old one and install this new one. It matched our other brushed nickel hardware perfectly and was extremely easy to install following the directions. It is simple, but elegant, and works really well. March 26, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for the price I like the idea of having two separate controls; one for the pressure and one for the temperature. I was surprised that the faucet was only made out of plastic, instead of being metal. It cannot be connected to a four inch pipe, only a short one. I do like the shower head, and the handles, although the temperature handle seems too stiff. I have to hold the large pressure knob to change the temperature, so it doesn't change the pressure. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good shower set for a very good price. Top notch showers at good hotels made me want this kind of shower that is so simple to use: One handle for water volume, with separate temp control that maintains the temp as the volume is adjusted. The Leland Monitor does this, fairly effectively, with good looks. So I'm happy -- and at a fraction of the price of the expensive stuff! Two minor flaws: 1) The temp does vary slightly as the volume is adjusted; not enough to burn or freeze you, but enough to notice. 2) The volume lever encounters some friction as you twist it, so it does not feel as smooth and easy as the best I've used. A deal-maker for me is how helpful the telephone support has been. Most reps are both patient and knowledgeable about the product and about some of the plumbing quirks that one encounters when installing these. Others who did not know the details of the most difficult questions I asked did not try to bluff me; they admitted they did not know and straightforwardly worked to help the best they could. In the end, we all succeeded in my successful installation -- the first-time I've done it. With a good product and great support I will go back to Delta the next time I need a shower or faucet item.
