Customer Questions & Answers

Must the pop-up drain stopper be installed?

Hello- I'd rather have a plain drain and use a rubber plug if needed, since all the pop-up stoppers I've had wore out fast and were nothing but an obstruction in the drain line. Thank you!
Asked by: TAE
No. If you don't ever plan on using the stopper, you can forego it.

Does this faucet swivel?

Asked by: mitch
No. But if your installation doesn't require the three-hole baseplate, you certainly can install it permanently at some angle other than perpendicular to the back edge of the sink bowl.

Can the plastic pop up drain assembly be replaced with a Delta Metal pop up drain assembly or a push -pop metal drain assembly?

I do not like the way plastic drain assemblies 'tarnish' with hard water stains. Are metal drain assemblies all metal with the chrome top fused to the metal stem or do they have a plastic chrome 'top' which is attached to the metal stem? What metal are the drain metal assemblies made from?
Asked by: sunny
You can replace the plastic pop-up assembly with either a metal or a push-pop assembly. In the case of the push pop, you would need to keep the horizontal rod and pivot nut installed in the drain body to stop the water from spilling out the pivot hole -- or you would have to seal off the pivot hole with something. I don't know about the construction of the metal drain units except that the metal is probably plated brass.

Is the pop-up drain assembly metal or plastic?

Is this drain assembly referring to the drain plunger in the sink which operates by a handle behind the faucet?
Asked by: sunny
Yes, the pop-up stopper is the "plunger" operated by the handle behind the faucet. The drain and pop-up stopper are mostly plastic. The vertical and horizontal rods of the assembly are metal, probably brass.

Porter Single Hole Single-Handle Bathroom Faucet in Oil Rubbed Bronze is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installed two of theses faucets in our master bathroom this weekend. My wife and I love the smoot... Installed two of theses faucets in our master bathroom this weekend. My wife and I love the smooth operation, and the fact that it's taller than the original (Moen) faucet. The only small complaint I have is that at the bottom of the sink, water collects around the flange. This wasn't the case with the original faucet parts. Perhaps it's the angle of the new Delta flange, or that I'm an noob at faucets :) This is how my installation went Faucet and service line installation: - Removed the old faucet and cleaned the surrounding areas of calcium build up (used CLR and a razor blade). - Then I prepared the new faucet to secure to the top. I first attempted to use the braided stainless steel service lines, but I abandoned that idea after finding some fine print on the label stating that there is lead in the product and to wash your hands thoroughly -- yada, yada. Why is there lead in products that are used for plumbing? I returned them and then bought 4 1/4" diameter, 29" long pex lines. I already own a pipe cutter. IMPORTANT: Make sure that you install the lift rod now, and not after the faucet has been secured with the metal brack and silicone. The hole that accepts the lift rod is set at a slight angle, and if there isn't enough clearance between the faucet and backsplash you might be in for a struggle. You've been warned :) :) - We have a granite top so I applied silicone to the plastic gasket's outer and circular edges. - I placed the facuet into the center hole, and the race was on get it aligned and secured comfortably before the silicone hardened. As it cured I used a bunch of damp paper towels to clean up the excess silicone from the edge of gasket and countertop. - With the faucet secured I cut new pex lines. The old ones were useless because the faucet's service lines are different lengths. My first attempt at installation didn't end very smooth as I chose not to use silicone (not provided with kit) on the baseplate. The previous faucet didn't use it so I thought I'd be ok but the difference is that the Moen faucet has two points securing the base of the faucet to the countertop while the Delta faucet has only one point from the center. This leaves very little pressure on the edges of the faucet so I had to dissassemble it and apply silicone. Drain installation: I hesitated removing the existing stopper and drain assembly because it all worked and I had a feeling this would be the most time consuming process. The Delta oil rubbed faucet was replacing a chrome faucet so to make things look consistent I decided to dive in. I'm glad that I did becaue the Delta parts match the pull rod assembly and kit construction so all pieces moved smoothly and as expected. If I had left the old Moen chrome assembly and only replaced the pull rod the movement wouldn't have been as smooth. - I dissassembled the trap and related piping connections. Anything that was permanently glued I left alone. - The instructions suggest using silicone to form a water tight seal between the flange and sink. This is where I may have made a couple mistakes, or deviated from the instructions. I instead applied silicone to the rubber gasket (the piece underneath the sink), tightening it to the underside of the sink. For the flange however I used plumbers putty. I saw different perspectives online about the use of silicone or putty, so perhaps I'm not entirely wrong but I didn't follow instructions to the letter. Both sinks are currently on probation, with paper towels lying underneath to detect leaks. It's been a couple days without issue. - During this entire phase of installation I took time to clean out the trap and get rid of all the gunk over the years. I had a bucket underneath the sink while I poured water into the overflow hole to flush out the large yummy chunks of "bubblegum" that accumulated over the years :) - These steps went smooth but I took my time on the first sink to fully absorb what I was doing and checked my work along the way. Installation on the second sink moved quickly as there was no longer any doubt or guess work involved. The only twist on the second second sink is that I had to use my pipe cutters to cut the Moen (plastic/pvc) drain pipe to collect the large metal nut to reuse when securing the new Delta (blue) drain pipe. I'm a small guy but after a weekend on my back cramped into the underside of a cabinet I'm a bit sore :) :) We're happy with the product so far and it was an adventure installing them. Work, but in an enjoyable kind of way. Good luck with your installation and I hope my detailed ramblings may help others. Happy Memorial Day! :) :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cartridge issues Despite my above ratings I would still recommend this product because it is very attractive and functions beautifully when all the parts are working. We must have gotten a lemon. Within 8 months the two options for using it were "completely" on ( Max water stream) or "completely " off. If you raised the lever to just allow for a light stream of water, then the lever would fall down and shut water off. Called Customer Service and a new cartridge will be sent to us. I hope it's a DIY project, or I will incur a plumbers fee for replacing part. Not happy with that since I wouldn't be in this situation if the product I purchased was manufactured properly. Oh well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Faucet, poor pop-up cntl location The Porter is a great faucet with easy installation. Only problem is the design of the drain pop-up control lever. With modern granite counters with under mount sinks, there I is no clearance to operate the pop-up control handle. Older designs like the Delta 522 series require minimal space behind the unit to operate the control (approx. > 1/2 inch). The Porter requires approx. 1 & 1/2 inches behind the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We couldn't be happier with our choice of faucets. Love them! We bought these faucets when we remodeled our bathroom. I am rather old-fashioned and wanted to go with traditional two-handled faucets on our double vanity, but my wife had her heart set on single-handled faucets. I'm so glad I let my wife have what she wanted. These faucets are beautiful! We are pleased with the ease of operation. We had them installed by a plumber, and he told us that he had no problem installing them. They look like they cost twice what we actually paid for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from adding a second of these to bathroom After getting one of these faucets a couple of years ago for our main bathroom, we're adding a second during our upgrade of the bath vanity to a double sink. This is a well made and good looking metal product; it comes with flexible water supply lines for easy hookup to the shutoff valves. The only small flaw that I discovered causes me to pinch my skin at the back of the faucet lever if I have an overly generous grip on it when I shut it off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheap pop up assembly We bought this faucet because of the delta name. We have tried installing this three times and each time it leaks around the plastic nut threads. The last time we tightened it, it stripped out the plastic threads. I spoke with a customer service rep and he is sending a new assembly. I ask about a metal one and they want another 45.00 for metal. I am not sure if it is the plastic parts or the flat flange that is causing the leak. Will wait the two days for delivery and try again. Would not buy this model again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely sold on this "single handle" faucet. I am buying another for the main bathroom. I hate the old style single handle faucet in my shower. When I saw a prior review about a husband having the same feeling until he bought this faucet; it gave me the incentive to try it out. I am so glad I did. It is so simple to use, elegant, the right height, quality, etc. We wife loves it too. Another reviewer had a slight complaint about using the lever to open and close the drain. It is a little awkward, but it works. An easier solution that I use is: Just use the lever to open the drain (push down on the lever) and then don't bother with the lever to close the drain; just push down on the drain.
