Answer:
I recommend changing the small spring and seat that fits under the unit. Cost is just a few dollars. Nothing else is required.

Answer:
Yes, it is pushed by a spring and is what keeps water from flowing through the faucet. Probably the most essential part. After time, it wears out and no longer holds out the water, causing the faucet to start dripping

Answer:
elta Faucet model # RP1740 can be replaced by turning off the water and removing the handle along with the bonnet nut. The old RP1740 should pull straight up and you can replace it with the new cartridge.

Hi BFM,
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # RP1740 can be replaced by turning off the water and removing the handle along with the bonnet nut. The old RP1740 should pull straight up and you can replace it with the new cartridge. Then just put everything back the same way that it came out and you should be fine.
Thanks.

Previous answer:
"Thank you for your question. Delta part #RP1740 is the stem unit assembly for our lavatory series vs. the shower series."
Really? Because I just removed an identical one from my 2 handle shower mixer, although I don't know the brand on the mixer valve. Maybe someone else has the same one for a shower.
I can't seem to get the photo on here so you'll have to take my word for it.

Answer:
I removed the old unit simply by inserting a screw driver into it and lifting it out. If the spring slips out, either while removing the old or inserting the new, it can easily be removed or reinserted using a pair of needle nose pliers. Reinsert the new spring into the new seat and re-install..

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delta RP1740 cartridge and bonnet stem assembly Daughter needed a sink cartridge put into the cold faucet side of her kitchen sink. She has Delta, which I prefer. When I went to get a replacement cartridge, noticed the generic brand one's were much cheaper. However, I got the Delta brand name anyway. When I went to replace cartridge, noticed someone had used the generic version and it didn't hold up very well, so glad I paid this time for the name brand. One additional comment and that is the in store display had the Delta RP1740 cartridge I needed and bought, but was out of stock on the Delta RP4993 seats and springs. Ugh!!! May 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BUY DELTA made parts!!!! Bought this replacement part, and the faucet continued to drip. BUY THE DELTA STEM AVAILABLE for a couple of more dollars!!!!, Also the DELTA spring and Teflon washer. February 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, Easy to Install Unit First, look at the video on You Tube to walk you through the installation. Once I did that, installation was a breeze. Fast and easy. I had to tap on the old unit several times to get it to loosen enough to just lift out and replace with the new one. You should buy a replacement spring set and install that as well. It was only a couple dollars for a set of two. I had a leak that disappeared immediately once the new unit was installed. One word of caution: I bought a couple of these and was charged $9.78 each. Later, I saw that they sold these identical units in a package of six for only $2.66 each. Buy the package and change all the faucets. It will only take a few minutes each once you do one. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delta Stem Unit Assembly Replacement for dripping Peerless faucet This Delta Stem Unit Assembly is compatible with Peerless faucets, which was easy to replace. The most challenging part was fitting the rubber gasket and spring in the opening where the water comes through. No more leaks! November 11, 2014
