Is the grab bar / shelf designed to mount tub surround, not in stud, and still support the stated weight?

There is no drywall behind the tub splash wall and therefore the toggle type mounting hardware included must be used, but how would this support the weight and not pull the flexible splash walls loose?

Answer:
Mine worked vey well with thin surround over drywall. But with just a thin surround, this will not be very solid, although if your surround is one molded piece in the corner, then it will be fairly ridged. Would work OK to store items, and support you as you take a shower - but to prevent a fall from complete loss of balance, not so sure??

Answer:
I seriously doubt that this grab bar/shelf could hold even 100 lbs if only mounted in the drywall.

Hi the5guy,
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # DF702PC will need to have at least one end installed into a stud for it to hold the stated weight.
Thanks.

Answer:
Hi the5guy,
If you do not have any drywall or other structure behind the the tub splash then you can not use this shelf/grab bar as it will not support the weight, and pull through the wall panel.
This unit must be properly attached to solid structure such as studs to be safely used.

Answer:
The dish/platform/shelf is made of plastic.
If you glued it to tile using liquid nails, it would not hold the stated weight. I think in that use it would only be good as a shelf; not a grab bar.

Answer:
Plastic and the rail must be screwed to the wall. They are not made at 90 degrees and will not fit a true corner.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # DF702PC has a shelf that is plastic and we do not recommend gluing it to the tile as it is a safety bar/shelf. It would not hold any force that would be put upon it if it were glued to the tile.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great design This is a nice idea and is very sturdy. Nice looking a great idea. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shelf We love the functionality of the pr poo duct. Great shelf and hand bar. March 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good design and style Nice product that duals as a shelf and assist bar. June 21, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by does not fit into 90 degree corner The pictures of this product are deceiving. I f you want to mount under the tile you will lose 25% of the shelf. If you mount on top of tile you will need to shim it some way. It does not fit into a corner. January 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best thing for the shower. Great for stability in the shower. Didn't want an assist bar that looked like a hospital. The shelf wasn't that easy to secure into place, but with a small hammer and cushioning it fit snug. I had a professional install the bar and I secured the shelf. December 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love these! When looking for a way to install grab bars that were stylish I had no idea that these even existed. I had 2 of these installed in a new tiled shower plus the matching soap dish and curved grab bar. I believe each piece was about $30 and they are rock solid and pretty. The only con is that they only come in chrome and because of that, I changed the theme of the whole bath from brushed nickel to chrome. I still have several more baths to convert and hopefully brushed nickel and bronze versions will start appearing. October 20, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by screws make it impossible to snap shelf in place The instructions are poor, but if using the drywall anchors (rather than screwing into a stud), you have to remove the screw from the anchor, push the screw through the shelf hole, then re-attach the anchor to the screw. Then you have to drill a 5/8" hole and push the (folded up) anchor into the hole so that it opens toward you (so it grabs against the other side of the drywall). That process can be pretty difficult. The not-so-nice surprise is that, once you've gotten the shelf installed, the screws you used to install it are in the way of snapping the plastic shelf into its mount holes! I may have to take a rasp to the plastic shelf so I can get a good mounting. June 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product, fairly easy to install, looks good. This fit squarely in the corner of my tub surround, and I was lucky that 3 of the four mounting screws were located over solid wood. The fourth screw needed the supplied expansion fitting which worked very well and was secure. But note that you will need a 5/8" diameter drill for this expansion screw (which I already had).
