Some wooden lawn edging has black plastic on the back, which makes it ugly unless it is completely buried. Does this have any plastic on the back? THANKS.

Answer:
The wood is 5 1/2" high, and the steel stakes are 6" long, but protrude down maybe 4 - 4 1/2" after being driven into the holes in the bottom of the wood.
In case you did not see my review, you will likely find it necessary to purchase metal mending plates and stainless screws to tie the sections of edging together to get good alignment and prevent gaps.

Answer:
Hi Kolson. There are 3 metal spikes that insert into the bottom of the wooden stakes - one on each end and one in the middle to help stabilize it. Some people will dig a small trench to set the edging down in for a sure fit.

How Much Does Product Expand?

This question is from 5-1/2 in. x 12 ft. Wood Lawn Cedar Stained Edging

I have 2 spans to install. 1 is 25 feet and the other is 10. Both have concrete abutments at both ends such that a tight fit will usually cause buckling due to expansion from soaking up rain water. How much expansion can I expect from your product on these 2 spans.

Thanks,
Steve

I have only had it in for a couple of weeks, so I do not know from experience, but I would suspect very little if any.

Hi Steve. That is an interesting question. The moisture expansion will be some, but would be challenging to estimate. Leaving 1/2" on each end should be enough over the 25 feet. Hope this helps.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 28 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Warped and ruined after 1 rain We installed this edging less than two weeks ago. It was nice and straight and we even added brackets to ensure it would remain straight. After 1 rain it is ruined. It is crooked and warped. I would not recommend this product. PLEASE see pictures and avoid wasting your money. August 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Edging looks great I bought 4 boxes of this edging to re-do my entire front landscaping. It was pretty easy to install although it's a bit difficult to get the pieces right up against each other. Also with the first rain some of them warped a bit and became wavy, a center stake would solve this problem I think. We ended up buying some flat metal stakes and hammered them into the ground directly in front of the center of the wavy pieces. Then placed small stones all down the front to hide the stakes and give better support to all the edging pieces. All in all, it worked out ok and the edging looks really great! A little creativity to make them work is necessary, but worth it. July 17, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wood edging Worked great and is very easy to use. Definitely recommend . July 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good It looks good, but a few rains have caused the wood to warp a bit. I will have to realign them. I wished there were more than two stakes per panel to hold them in the ground. Would definitely make them more permanent. You could add some if you're a bit industrious. I had a bit of trouble making them run together uniformly. I ended up placing a popsicle sick across the seam where one panel met the other and stapling them down. Hence it bonded one panel to the next. That REALLY helped keeping them uniform and made them look like one continuous length. We'll see how they fare through the winter. I hope they retain their stained look. All in all, I'd say this was a very good border choice. I looked long and hard and decided this was the best I could get, October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent border This product was pretty much exactly as I had imagined from the description. I used it as a border between my lawn and garden area to slow the kicking of bark into the lawn by the birds. Super easy installation and looks great. June 21, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice, but...... The edging is very nice, although pricey. I found it difficult to install the 3 foot long sections and end-up with a nice straight edge, as there is no means of fastening the sections together. In order to remedy the situation, I went out and bought 2" wide mending plates (steel rectangles with 4 holes in each), along with some 3/4" stainless steel pan head screws. Drilled holes, and tied the sections together, which produced a much neater looking installation. When you pay the price of these, they should come with the kit. September 29, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by missing pieces Ordered 6 boxes and 4 of them were missing the metal spikes. Will have to find something else to secure them into the ground. May 10, 2016
