How do you keep the top from spotting? Is there something I can use to seal this with?

Hi Sasha, yes water spotting is a problem. You can use a favorite of mine, 511 Impregnator. This is one of the best that I know of. There is also instructions from the manufacture on use and care. Here is a link to that.
