Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 40 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really works I had a block of concrete in the front yard which was used as a barrier between the lawn and the trees. I tried breaking it with brute force but didn't make much progress so I looked for an alternative and found this product. I didn't realize that this product was sold locally so plan accordingly. The hardest part of this project was drilling the holes. I used a hammer drill with a one inch masonry bit. The drilling took me off and on about five hours over 3 days. I was a little worried that I need to use this product on a weekend that was cold (recommended temperate was 77f to 104f but it was in the 70s during the day and 50s at night) so I mixed the product and poured it into the holes around noon when the sun was out. I read that most of it works in first four hours but whe I checked back about 5 hours later and was disappointed that there were only a few hairline cracks. My first reaction was that I wasted $42. However, I checked back a few hours later and noticed there were hairline cracks between all of the holes. The following day the cracks were wider and I could have disposed the pieces the next. However, since I'm slowly dumping the blocks in my trash, the block has been sitting there for days and now the cracks are 3/8 inch plus. May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It did ok It did ok. It took a good 48 hours prior to breaking up my stoop. I did a second round on it . The second round didn't do as well as the first. I will still have some work to do, but its a good start. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product This worked so great and so fast!!!! Saved us a lot of time! June 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spilt a granite Boulder This stuff really works. I rented a pnuematic rock drill and drilled 5 holes approximately 3 feet deep. I was only able to fill 3 1/2 holes with the qty of dexpan that I purchased. The first day, nothing happened. 2 days later I saw a small crack. Within a week a 1/4 inch crack appeared. This is a huge boulder and I don't know how much is buried in the ground. I will need to use more holes to actually split the boulder apart and separate the pieces but this was a great start. I previously tried a jack hammer and the boulder just laughed. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dexpan - amazing We have a camp in ME with a 40' dock that was slowly being pushed away from shore by a huge boulder that was being pushed by expanding ice each winter. There wasn't any way to bring in heavy machinery and we had to be careful with the dock and stairs - so this had to be done by hand, After a full day with drills, hammers and wedges we didn't come close to clearing enough away to make a difference. A friend said he heard of Dexpan and thought it might work. I ordered it, drilled a few holes, poured Dexpan into the holes and walked away. I came back the next weekend and the rock was perfectly separated along the line of holes. I simply popped out a few pieces and was left with a 5 in gap between the boulder and dock. This product produced the exact results I was looking for - could not be happier! October 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I drilled the holes with a 7/8" bit, which was smaller than what was recommended since I didn't believe I would be able to operate a larger drill that could accommodate a 1.5" bit . There was no visible reaction during the first 36 hours after I had poured in the Dexpan, and I was thinking that the product wouldn't work because of the smaller hole diameters. The second day, however, it started to rain and within the next 6 - 8 hours, large cracks appeared as I had seen in the videos. When I pulled the pieces apart I found quite a bit of dry dust in the holes, which more than likely meant that the concrete had been porous, and absorbed the water before it could activate the expansion. The air temperature was about 55 F, and it is possible that the process had been faster on a warmer day. Despite having to wait a bit longer than I originally anticipated I was impressed with the results, and relieved over the procedure not being more complicated than you typically see in the demonstration videos. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dexpan not worth it Do not buy this stuff. It sort of worked, under ideal conditions, ultimately creating a smaller, but still unmanageable hunk of concrete. By the time you order this, get it, drill a bunch of holes (not easy and you still have to buy or rent the tools for this), wait to see if it works, add more water, wait again, then chip away at the concrete anyway, you could have just jackhammered it. Too bad, I wanted to be happy with this product. October 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked perfectly This worked as advertised. I used it to break up entryway steps. The concrete was thicker than I expected, but the Dexpan broke it all the way through, 18"at the thickest spots. This in spite of the fact that the weather changed and the overnight lows dropped below the temperature range recommended. May 10, 2016
