Will this bit stay flush with a templet even though there is no bearing?

I believe the thick base will act as a bearing, just want to make sure

Answer:
This bit was not designed for such a purpose. It's best to use a ball bearing guide when using a template if possible. I know a 1/2" bit with a pilot point and bushing areas does exist for I have one. I use router bits as they were intended to be utilized. Safety first with such an unpredictable tool and if in doubt - don't!

Answer:
If you want to use a template, you will need a flush trim bit with bearing or a panel pilot bit.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid and dependable I use this bit primarily for edge jointing on my router table. This bit cuts very smoothly through the hard woods that I use like red oak, white oak, and Brazilian cherry. No complaints so far, August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great! Buy with confidence. Worked great! Highly precise and durable. Will likely buy additional Diablo bits in the future. May 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice solid product I needed a router bit to square up a kitchen's worth of maple butcher block counter top. This worked like a champ. Many straight cut bits are two short to handle a two inch depth but this worked perfectly. January 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed I bought this router bit because I needed a longer shank to be able to mortise four risers for my deacon's bench so it was at an appropriate height. October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love these bits!!! I had not used Freud bits before but decided to give these a try. I Am making several chairs out of oak and this bit cuts through it like a hot knife through butter with a very smooth cut.. I bought two at the same time thinking that they wouldn't last very long but after completing one chair the bit doesn't appear to dulled at all. August 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great bit tough and very high quality. Started carving signs, and made a great choice with this product! December 4, 2012
