how do i cut lexan

can i use a 71/4 60 tooth blade
Asked by: fred
Lexan is a brand name for polycarbonate. I assume it's more than 1/16" thick, since thinner materials can be cut with a razor knife. 60 teeth on a small blade should work fine; you want to go slow and prevent the sheet from fluttering. If it's a convoluted sheet, it takes extra precaution. You should add tape over the cut line to reduce noise/chatter. I've cut many a panel on my tablesaw with a 10" 100-tooth blade. You might want to get more comfortable by viewing some on-line videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Cuts This saw blade works great with my 7-1/4 saw. The kerf is super thin and the saw blade cuts with very little to no tear-out on pine. PVC is no problem either, with no melting or burning at all. The cutting is a little slower going since the blade has such a high tooth count, but the cut quality is worth a little extra time. Just remember, if you use a cut-guide be sure to account for the thinner kerf of this blade. Otherwise your work piece might end up a small fraction of an inch too wide. Not the end of the world, but definitely something to take into account. Great blade, great performance!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth cuts on wood and plastic! This blade is a great improvement over the 32 tooth stock blade that came with my miter saw. With this 84 tooth blade, I get super smooth cuts on any material. I've used it on pine, treated lumber, and PVC so far with awesome results. The PVC didn't burn or tear out at all, and I barely even had to de-burr it afterwards. The finish on the blade still looks new as well, even after making dozens of cuts. I plan on using this as my default blade from now on since it's so versatile. The only thing you may have to get used to is cutting a little slower. If you're framing and don't care about tear-out, you may want to stick with a blade with fewer teeth since you can't just slam the blade down with a high tooth count blade.

I bought it for ripping Trex decking and found that it provides superior cuts in hardwoods, melamine board and other materials. Nearly jointer-smooth cuts if you've got your technique down. It is one of my go-to blades for both my portable contractor's saw and my shop cabinet saw. Just remember you can't push the cut - the gullets on this blade have 0 hook angle so they don't clear chips as fast. Makes a very nice clean cut. Also have the 12" version of this on my big sliding compound miter saw if I'm not using my ultra-fine finish blade.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well Would have rated 5 stars but does not clear cuttings well and can deform slightly causing an irregular cut if you plunge too fast into Trex decking. This was with a compound miter saw and once cut was through the board and chips could clear, it would cut beautifully and quickly. If cutting speed is important, recommend a sliding compound saw, I suspect it would cut composite decking much more easily and efficiently since blade wouldn't load up from having to lift material from the cut. The non-stick coating appears to actually work with no plastic build up on the blade after several hundred cuts through Trex Transcends decking.
