I use this paper to sand all the noticeable imperfections out of the wood.
It does a good job and you get a lot of sanding out of a sheet. When you buy it in a quantity package it's pretty inexpensive.
For the final sanding on finish work I would recommend doing it by hand the old fashioned way, especially when you plan to stain the wood. Electric sanders usually leave some circular marks that show up in staining no matter what paper you use.
This paper will get you through the bulk of the sanding fast and inexpensive.

I'm puzzled by the poor reviews for this product. It would appear that they're all trying to use these with hook & loop sanders. This is a little like filling your diesel truck with gasoline and complaining that it doesn't run properly.
I used these with a simple, rubber cup-type sanding disc and a power drill. They stuck to the attachment perfectly and never dislodged, even under conditions that had caused other self-stick discs to tear. The backing is thick and durable, the abrasive cuts cleanly with little effort and does not clog easily. HD stocks them in 40 grit, which was a nice surprise. Highly recommended.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ATenholder Does not work as advertised
I bought these thinking that they would work with the new dewalt sander I had just purchased. It does not work with a hooks and loop sander. As other posters have said it may well work if you stick it to an old pad, but if the product requires you to have an old sheet of sand paper lying around in order to function then the product is not working as advertised. It should be made clear on the label that it does not work with a hooks and loops model. It doesn't do that. As is, the product is useless and on top of that destroys itself almost instantly because the dust coats the adhesive. complete waste of money

Only sandpaper to take the old paint off my deck, cheap and lasts pretty long. As other posters have already said if you use a hook and loop sander just stick this to a used piece of hook and loop sandpaper

I decided to try these and purchased the 120 and 180 grit packs since Home Depot no longer carries the Ryobi discs. The supposed stickfast backing doesn't stick to anything. After removing the backing and applying pressure to attempt to get it to adhere (assuming that it may be pressure sensitive) it does not stick at all. As soon as I start my orbital sander the sanding disc immediately flies off of the sander. I am returning the product and will never purchase them again. Do not buy these they are worthless!

The adhesive backing doesn't stick unless you are completely vertical on a flat surface. I peeled the backing off and watch disk after disk fall off. It didn't even stick to paper. Worse yet, the store clerk recommended this!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by engr4you Grit Lasts; Loops on Back Do Not
First, Diablo makes great saw blades that last a very long time. As for their sanding discs, the grit outlasts the holding power of the loops on the back. I think it is partly because the attempt at universal holes allows sanding dust to permeate the loop material but I am not sure. Anyway, the discs fly off the pad (brand new pad I might add) after a short while and there is still plenty of life to the face grit of the sanding disc. If you buy 50 packs the price seems good but this is probably not a bargan in the long run as the frequent changing of discs is a nuisance. Sorry Diablo, need to improve the backing/loops on this product. The discs that came with the Ryobi orbital sander are much better and Ryobi is not a high-end brand. Not sure why HD went away from Norton or some other supplier but these discs need a second look by Diablo.
