Questions & Answers

what grain would i get if i'm looking to sand some floor without scratching it

Asked by: matt
Depends on how much you need to sand the floor. The 220 grit should leave you a nice smooth surface but if you need to get rid of deep scratches or gouges in the wood you'd probably want to start with something coarser, maybe 80 or 100 grit, and work through the grits to eliminate sanding marks.

Which grit should I use?

I would like to purchase this product, but am not sure which grit is best for which job. Can you provide examples for each?
Asked by: LibGal
The grit should be determined based on the stage of your project. 80 grit would be for your first sanding, and go up from there in steps until you reach your desired smoothness. Depending on my project and finish type I go with 80, 120, 220, 320 and 400 grits to get the desired finish I also change from random orbital to a palm sander for all grits after 120 grit. I hope this was of some help

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best discs I've used. These are incredible. I've heard of diablo but figured that I could get the same use for half the price with a cheaper off brand sandpaper. Don't make my mistake. Yes, they are more expensive, but I guarantee tht you will end up saving money due to how much longer they last. The first half of my boat build I went through approx 200 sanding discs off a lower priced competitor. The second half I switched to these and used 47 of them. (In addition I messed up and forgot to add hardener to a batch of resin and had to sand off a gummy mess.) Still didn't use nearly as many. Ended up saving time and money. Wish I had read the reviews before I started my build.

I used them on a Dewalt 6 amp orbital sander and a Bosch 3 amp random orbital sander. They stuck well to the hook and loop pad, and cut well, but seemed to load up fast. I was sanding kitchen cabinets for refinishing. These cabinets are 30+ years old with original stain and some form of Varnish top coat. The top coat stuck to the pads quickly and loaded them up. I would go through 1-2 pads per door side clearing off the top coat, then a new pad would clean up the wood just fine. Flip the door over and repeat. Went through quite a few pads due to the load-up issue. Might work better on another finish, and they do work great on bare wood, just beware trying to clean off varnish, urethane or similar top coats that they might gum up fast.

I was surprised when I seen the price of these, but they last so much longer than any other sand paper that I've used. The Velcro holds the paper tight on the sander, and the holes line up great with the ones built into the sander to collect the dust. leaves everything smooth, and great to paint over. This is why I buy Diablo, because their stuff is made with quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always the best I always buy Diablo sanding pads. These are made by Freud. We have worked with all the other brands at lowes and Home Depot but always come back to these. We have an antique business and I do a lot of custom pieces so we go through a ton of pads. Diablo pads last longer than any other pad no matter what grit we use. Longer lasting means a better value and less money spent.

The sand paper holds up well and usually last much longer than other brands making it more economical to use over time. The item in the picture was sanded with Diablo 5 in. 220 orbital sanding disc and the person who received the item mentioned how smooth the finish was.

I used this paper to sand off some hard to remove paint from the trim on my house. While I did go through quite a few of the discs due to the paint gumming up the paper, it was the easiest way to remove the old layers. These discs are easy to install and remove. They hold up well to normal use and are very reasonably priced.

I picked this grit size by accident - thought I had picked 60, 120 and 220. Still, slapped them onto a yellow and black variable-speed orbital sander and worked as expected in both wood and metal - getting a homemade wooden patio set ready for paint and a used grill ready for primer, paint and season!
