Customer Questions & Answers

Is the grit on this disc as "hard" as silicon carbide?

I want to try sanding the back (flat) surface of a lapidary cabochon prior to polishing. Diamond wheels, laps, etc are used a lot these days, but silicon carbide still works. Would these discs work in place of silicon carbide? The cabochon is probably about a 5.5 on the mho scale.....maybe a little lower.

Our Diablo 220-grit will not give the same surface removal as a Silicon Carbide disc. Diablo's sanding discs are made up of an Aluminum Oxide blend, which will not give the same finish you are looking to achieve. With that being said, we recommend using a Silicon Carbide disc for this application.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value I've tried other sandpaper for my 6" sander but the holes in this sandpaper are cut specifically to the Ryobi sander I own which makes it much more convenient, and with the right dust collection setup, sanding can be done with minimal mess. The only downside is that unless you buy a huge pack, the smaller packs of discs are super expensive ie around $1.00 per sheet. Unless you seldom sand, its easier to just pull the trigger, get a big pack, and use them sparingly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Disks The disks are easy to remove and install. I just wish they carried more six inch hook and loop grits abouve 220 and below 80.
