I always use the remote, but you can reach behind it at the very top and click it on with a switch just like a light switch.

Sorry to tell you this, Home Depot associate that answered this question... you are wrong. You cannot turn on the heat from the remote. You only turn the flame on or off with the remote. There are no flame adjustments. I have answered how to turn on the heat and maintain that level of heat in another answer. Please read that for more information.

Answer:
The remote controls only the flame - on or off, nothing in between. The heat is turned on by a switch in the back. There is a round know that controls the heat level - turn it to where you might want the heat and when it reaches that warmth, go to the knob and turn it back till it clicks. It will maintain that level of heat. If you want it higher, turn the knob up; same with lower - turn it the other way Read More

The legs are molded of a thick heavy plastic. I feel they are quite sturdy. The unit is nearly 60 pounds so the legs have to be sturdy.

Several reviewers and product descriptions mention ambiance, but none specifically state whether or not their electric fireplaces/electric stoves make that wonderful sound of wood burning.

The sound it makes is a short loop with 2 loud thumps every 7 seconds - it really is awful and I returned the unit immediately. But the popping sound makes a world of difference in the enjoyment I get from the fireplace/stove. Read Less

First of all I know Dimplex to be a company with an excellent reputation and track record. Important to me as I am replacing a different stove which proved to give me safety concerns. My new Dimplex is beautiful and of superior quality. It arrived with a puncture hole in the shipping carton. Although there was no damage to the stove itself, the remote was missing. I found customer service's response to be excellent--responsive and very polite. They immediately mailed me a new remote. The warmth and ambiance of this stove is so pleasurable in this extremely cold winter. It brightens my day!

It is heating our entire lower level which is 800 sf. We have the heat set rather low and it keeps the basement at a constant 68 degrees. It looks wonderful and works as advertised. It is mostly made of plastic but in our adult only home I am sure that it will last us many years. The cranberry color is perfect. Home depot home delivery was also amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic heat My daughter's family love it. The kids run down the stairs every morning to get dressed in front of it. Great heat, beautiful look and a realistic flame and red-hot coals unexpected for an electric!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product I purchased this stove as my last Dimplex finally died after 10 years. It functioned perfectly, so I replaced it with another Dimplex stove. I have a 2 room studio and it is heated wonderfully. My guinea pigs, cats and I are very comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recommend this product! Great at taking the chill out of the room. It's feels really cozy at night with the tv on and the 'fire' going and the logs and flames look almost real. Love the remote and the fact that you can dial back the amount of heat or turn it off completely but still have the fire going! We have turned it on almost every night since purchasing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasing to the eye- great addition to living room The stove looks great and adds a very nice warm color to the room. The stove has no problem heating the living and the dining room very well. There is virtually no sound, just the pleasing "flicker" and the nice warm air blowing across the room. Thinking about adding one to the master bedroom just so I can watch it as I fall asleep.
