Answer:
There are times when you may want to enter your garage without having the wireless remotes that come with the unit. An externally mounted unit is very useful for this purpose. You can also give out the code to the external unit to friends and family, etc.

Answer:
Mostly when more than two people reside at the same address and need access to the garage from the outside. Some households leave their front door locked all the time and access the house via the garage. When going on vacation, and you need to allow the neighbor limited access, to feed the pets for example, you can give them a remote, and not the keys to the house.

You may have two different cars with the wireless in each one. It is better to just hit the button when you enter the garage rather than enter the car and use the wireless. Just preference I guess.

The manufacturer includes 4 rails, two straight and two that have a curve and a straight section. My old garage door rails were kind of beat up so it was good to have new ones as replacements.

The professional garage door opener is using 2 longer rails and 1 connecting sleeve. The Home Depot version is using 3 shorter rails and 2 connecting sleeves. This enables the rail to fit into the Home Depot retail package.

I installed the Direct Drive opener myself when I was 72 years old, if I can do it you can do it.

Your old Craftsman rail is NOT compatible.
Home Depot will farm out the installation job and you may suffer a "pig in poke" installer; call the Sommer USA office at 704-424-5787 for an installer recomendation in your area.

No, the rail is completely different then the craftsman. If you have it installed then you can take the old one down or just let the installer do it. It is of no use.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 636 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by poor performance This garage door opener is Very , Very slow. That is in both directions . And yes the door is perfectly balanced in the 2 to 4 foot area . And secondly one of the remote openers for our car & truck would not program properly , I have hopes of sending it back , Also the openers are way Too small and at night i can never find the correct button to push . I need to find out if any remote opener will work with this opener . July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quietest Door Opener Very quiet opener. The instructions could be clearer and it took almost 5 hours to remove the old and install the new opener. I used YouTube to get instructions for programming the opener to our car. Again, written instructions are not that good. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Door Opener This garage door opener is excellent. It is extremely quiet and well made. I have a 7 foot standard size and weight garage door. My daughter has a heavier larger door and they have this garage opener and it has worked great for them for years. That is why I got mine when my old opener finally broke. If there is a negative the action of the door going up and down is just a little slower than other openers but so what? It works great and is quiet and sturdy! It has a good light too and 2 slim openers. I think this product is great and well priced. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by nice garage door opener between the u tube video and the written istructions the installation was straight foward about 3 hrs completed the job.the opener itself is very quiet but a little slow the only real nit picks i have is the remote buttons are very small needlessly they look like they were designed with a child in mind instead of an adult and there is no key pad included at this price point that is why i give it 4 stars July 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great opener quiet and reliable. Spend the extra money it's well worth it. June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product installation was easy with another person. Super quiet and seems very well made. I'm struggling with programming my homelink to this opener though. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just as advertised Just as advertised; quiet, solid, well-engineered. Installation was not difficult although the directions could be more explicit. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best opener for the price This was the second one I have installed. Easy and fast. Only complaint to the owners is that the remotes are too small. Great life time guarantee sold these two. June 7, 2016
