I want to buy a cordless vacuum for quick pickup in my small kitchen but don't have $$$ enough to buy one of these every 6 months. It seems like that is a common problem for so many customers....as it doesn't hold a charge.

Answer:
NiCad batteries lose their capacity if they are not fully discharged every time they are used. That's one of the top reasons why most tool manufacturers have switched to lithium or nickel metal hydride batteries, which don't have that problem. (And to make matters worse, the cadmium in these nickel cadmium batteries is toxic.)

I have not had mine six months yet but my dad has had the same vacuum for years. If it starts not to hold a charge he runs it until it is totally dead and then puts in on the charger and charges is all the way up. His still works great.

Answer:
I would keep looking - I purchased this vac as it sounded like just what I wanted - light, cordless and good for quick pickups. Pickup was just OK on carpet but I had to chase crumbs around on bare floors. I put a tissue down and it wouldn't even pick up that. I would not recommend this vac - I'm still looking for one myself!! Didn't own it long enough to know much about the charge.

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 132 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by They don't sell replacement battery packs The battery pack is the old nickel cadmium which only lasted us a couple of years (and cadmium is toxic). Though the battery pack is easily accessible by removing a couple of screws and it has a plug that would make it easy to replace, Dirt Devil (Royal Appliance Mfg. Co.) does not sell replacement battery packs. I believe this is environmentally irresponsible as it forces people to buy entire new vacumn cleaners instead of just the battery pack. There just no excuse for such a bad policy. November 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dirt Devil AccuCharge vacuum Great product, very powerful. Recently bought the vacuum and impressive for the size. Great two choice floor/carpet, does well on both. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase Great light weight cordless sweeper. Does a great job on bare floors and on a carpet. I think it is a very good value for the money. Quick charging and the charge lasts for quite a while. March 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Battery won't hold charge Vacuum is a great product when it works. However, Item was delivered from Home Depot on 02/26/15. Vacuum began deteriorating about two months ago. Called B&D service center on 01/01/16 and explained problem. Rep suggested I discharge vacuum completely and then charge for 24 hours. Have done this twice; 01/08/16 and 01/09/16 the second time unplugging the charger before recharging. In both cases vacuum ceased functioning after 3 minutes. According to B&D website nearest service center is a 90 mile round trip from us. Will see how well B&D backs their product when I talk to them on 01/11/18 January 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works OK The vacuum has good power and picks up well. I am having an issue with the charging station, I will run the unit for maybe 4 or 5 minutes for a quick pickup and set it back into the charger and the red charging light stays on for hours. This unit is listed as quick charging yet this seems that it is not. It has always been fully charged when I use it so may not be a problem. January 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great and sturdy This is a great compact powerful and maneuverable machine. Great suction and easy to clean. January 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Save your $. Buy something else. I've owned mine for less than a year, used it a couple dozen times, never abused it, cleaned it out after every use. Now, it won't hold a charge more than 3 or 4 minutes. Tried running the battery down to nothing and fully recharging it. That didn't work. An expensive lesson learned - it's a piece of junk. December 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It Sucks - Not This vacuum couldn't pick up a hitch hiker. It is horrible. I have a dog that sheds, like most. This vac picks up some of the hair and then leaves it somewhere else. July 19, 2016
