No you have to supply the fluids, might consider purchase at store preassembled and perhaps fluids would be added.

There is a sticker on the splitter tank with a temp range chart for the three AW grades. You will also need teflon tape for the hydraulic hose hookup.
The splitter needs a minimum of 5 gallons hydraulic to operate and tops out at 6.5 gallons. I don't think HD sells the fluid in these grades or quantities. Check with them. I bought mine at the local auto parts store. Dirty Hand is specific about using AW(Anti-Wear) grade. With tax runs under $50 for a 5 gallon tub. Recommend you fill to the max.
The engine takes 10w-30 oil. Read Less

I picked the crate up at HD and it fit in the back of my Dodge Ram 1500, 6'4" bed. I was able to close the tail gate. I was able to disassemble the crate in the truck bed and assemble the splitter with no problem. Recommend you have an extra hand to unload the rail. I see no problem with a Tacoma but the crate is about is 72"long x 33" wide x 20" tall. You may or may not be able to close the truck gate Read More

I'm a slight-of-build man closer to 70 than I would like to be but worked construction all my life. With forethought I was able to break down the crate on the pickup bed, unload, and assemble it by myself. However I would recommend you getting a friend who is physically disposed for this type of work, safety being the utmost consideration in these types of endeavors. You will have to hook up the hydraulic hoses, put on the wheels, and load the rail onto the trailer, not necessarily in that order. This splitter has worked well for me. Read Less

It comes in a wooden crate, they load it with forklift,,, Yes assembly is required,,, directions not the best but goes together pretty easy. If you can operate the log splitter you should be okay with assembly. It is easier to assemble with a second person helping.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This is the perfect spliter to use if your by your self and have no helper to work the lever. It cranks on first pull after the initial choke pull without a hitch. I got the standard log catcher which is a must, the table version would even be better as the standard one is shorter and does not allow bigger pieces to stay in hands reach. Only thing I would change about this spliter would be that the wood splinter gets clogged up in the top spliter guide at the left end. It has to be unclogged by using a screw driver to pry out splinters after each use. This actually causes the wood not to rest as flat as it could while splitting. Other than that it has split anything I have put into it, including knotty/twisty Hickory which is one of the worst woods to split. October 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Engine won't start Bought this unit after seeing the many glowing reviews. Arrived quickly after ordering and assembly was pretty easy for one person. Didn't come with any fluids; expect to add about 5 gallons of hydronic fluid. Once assembled, I had a heck of a time getting the engine to start. Took about 2 hours of pulling and waiting to get it started, after which it ran fine for an hour. I was never able to get the engine to start again after that. Called Dirty Hands and was told they couldn't do much and to take it to a Kohler authorized repair center. Not the answer I was hoping for. Took it back to my local Home Depot and now ordering a different one. I can say, for the hour the unit was functional, I was impressed with the operation. October 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dirty hand 22 ton splitter Great product. Lived up to it's reviews. Delivered in great shape. ALL parts and fasteners were there. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My son had it up & running within 1 hour. American made product at a reasonable price! My son loves the auto retraction of the piston. Spliter is handling large chunks of wood with no problems so far. I love that is a American made product October 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great splitter! took awhile to unpack from the crate & assemble. doesn't require all the hydraulic nor motor oil listed on instructions...it'll overfill and pour out if you go by instructions. I had hydraulic valve oil seal leaks and had it resealed by a service shop. Customer service for Dirty Hands with Frictionless World was great and said they'd reimburse for resealing all joints, not just the leaking one. so far I love it and the service shop praised the quality as better than splitters they sold for much more! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Workhorse Log Splitter That Does Not Disappoint This is my first log splitter but it seems to be professional quality from its design to performance. Each small engine has peculiar attributes and I found out that pulling the starting rope on a cold engine more than once with the choke on, flooded the engine. Now, I simply pull the starter rope once with the choke on and the throttle 1/3 of the way, turn the choke off and the engine starts on the second pull with the throttle at ~1/2 setting. I have split ~ 6 cords of both green and seasoned lodgepole pine with some fairly large knots ranging from 8"-20" in diameter and it rarely hesitates. On the larger diameter pieces, I do turn the logs over from one end to the other as it does bind near the end of the turn. As others mentioned, the gas tank allows the splitter to run for a very long time and the measuring tape on the beam is obliterated after a cord or two, but I'm not sure what purpose the tape is used for since the lengths of the logs should have been cut correctly already. Customer service from Dirty Hands is outstanding as I could not figure out how to install the log catcher, but overall the installation instructions were clear. The crate it came in is heavy (~550 lbs) so get a strong assistant to get it where you plan to put it together. Overall, you will not be disappointed if you choose this professional grade log splitter as it makes splitting wood easy and enjoyable. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome log splitter My Dirty Hands log splitter arrived faster than I expected. As all splitters it is larg and heavy, Putting it together wasn't really very hard, uncrating it almost took longer. I think the whole process took an hour. Once I filled it with oil and fuel it literally took one pole to start. I filled the fuel tank up and started splitting. Figured I'd see how long a tank would last. It lasts about 3 hours. Longer than I wanted to split wood. I have had it for three weeks now. It allows me to split wood at my pace, instead of trying to split all my wood in a hard weekend with a rented one. I figure I've already saved $ 300.00 in rental charges. I live in a forest filled with large fur and maple trees, this splitter has no problem with any round I put on it. And the cycle time for the ram is really fast. I work with a lot of tools and this one has become a favorite. Can't believe I waited so long to get it. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Machine! This is a solid and great working unit. Assembly was easy and it really works well. I am VERY happy with this one. Highly recommended. Also, the shipping was fast and it was packaged well. The delivery driver kindly placed the load right in my work zone which was a real help. You will need to buy about 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid and a quart of motor oil. This is a great value that will provide a lifetime of split wood for me. Can't say enough good about this splitter and the entire transaction. 5 stars the whole way. This unit does make a very loud rattling noise from the pivot bolt when in the vertical position. It is no big deal and is easily quieted with a wrap of some "rescue tape" (another FINE product) Buy with confidence. May 3, 2016
