Not only was this easy to put together, and better than renting one from your local equipment rental. It not only cut through the very large blocks of wood, weighing a good 300 to 350 lbs and a good 3 ft or better around. My son said the first time we used it that he would work until it ran out of gas. He ran out of energy and complained unlike other splitters we had rented this wouldn't run out of gas. I can't say enough good things about this machine. Except Kudos to them. It is worth every penny and then some. In two sessions we cleared the upper yard of wood, now I have the wood from three trees in the lower yard to do. I am confident that this will take less time and easier than in the past. I am happy I purchased this machine and you will be too. Whether its vertical or horizontal, it made short work . I no longer have to split wood with a splitting maul, which I have done since 1980

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thumper Excellent Log Splitter
This is the best and most rigid log splitter for the money! It took 45min. for assembly and fluid fill. It splits hardwood rounds on half speed without stalling or hesitating. Starts with first pull even when cold. Definitely recommended!

First two weeks of use I have split 7 cords of pine with ease. The Kohler engine runs smoothly and is certainly sufficient for splitting the conifers found in Colorado. The log catcher is a nice feature and would certainly recommend. The only bogus feature is the measuring tape displayed on the beam. The tape is totally destroyed after 2 hours of use. DHT should be able to do better. Really helps to have 2 people with the assembly process.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sparky Dirty Hand 22 Ton a Good Buy
I looked at a lot of log splitters before deciding on the Dirty Hand 22 ton. Home Depot made it easy with the interest free promotion and I bought it. This is really a heavy item at 580lbs shipping so I made the decision to have it shipped to my local HD store because they have the means to transfer it my full size truck. The packaged splitter will probably fit in the back of a smaller truck like a Ranger, S-10, etc. The plywood package is about six foot long. Once loaded I took it to my property in the country for assembly. Breaking down the plywood is easy because HD has already opened it for inspection but bring along a #2 phillips anyway. Metric wrenches were used for the package breakdown and splitter assembly but I mixed and match with SAE and a crescent. You will also need teflon tape for the hydraulic hose hookups. Had a friend with me to off load the contents which comes in three sections. The heaviest section is the beam with the hydraulics, then comes engine, tank & wheel section, then the trailer tow section. All the nuts and bolts were there. Take your time for assembling. Read the instructions. Assembly is easy and straight forward but you should have help with that beam. Don't let the thrill of owning a log splitter overwhelm you.
While looking at other splitters I noticed the Dirty Hand splitter had a more robust build than others in the same price range
This splitter does not come with any engine oil(10w-30) or hydraulic fluid(AW32-46-68). The hydraulic fluid to be used depends on ambient temperature. I live in Florida So I bought AW 68 which is suitable for an ambient temperature range of 50-100F. The lower the AW number the cooler the climate. The fluid costs about $50/5gal tub at your local auto parts store. The tank tops off at 6.5 gal. The splitter will have a sticker on the tank showing ambient temp range for hydraulic fluids AW32-46-68. Engine starts up first pull, operation is easy, and it splits really good. As always, watch out for the knots.
Operation of this splitter can be done with one person. Changing from horizontal to vertical operation is not a problem I'm a senior and I had no problem hooking it to my truck but my guess is the tongue weight is about 40-50lbs. You can manually push it around but that requires some effort. The younger you are the easier it is.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rene replacement of first unit
Got a replacement splitter after the first one had motor problems, and it works well
Most impressive was the customer service from dirty hands they called me after I wrote a not so good review on my first unit. And they tried making it good. Even rushed the replacement unit.
If customer service stays this concerned about a bad review and continues helping customers the way they helped me, even if the price is a little higher.
I will be looking for more of their products. Because customer service counts.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dsez Highly recommend
Shipped as promised within 7-10 days at my doorstep. Assembly was very easy but you need at least two persons to lift very heavy sections. Took 5 gallons of hydraulic oil and about 1 qt. engine oil for the Kohler. Started on very first pull and after about 5-6 reps with lever everything was working perfectly. I split about 2 cord of red oak and this splitter went through everything. Did a ton of research before I decided on this unit. Glad I did. You wont be disappointed in this splitter.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by woody Best splitter for the money
I looked on the web at a lot of models for several days before deciding on this splitter.I have been splitting oak for two days now and there hasn't been a piece that slowed it down. The Kohler engine took a little bit of getting used to as to how to place the throttle and choke for starting. Now that I have it figured out it's off and running in a couple of pulls.Runs quiet, cycles fast, easy on gas.Heavy duty built and operator friendly.
