This is very easy to use my five year old pulled the handle for me doing the real heavy logs. By the time you run out of gas if you are doing it by yourself. the log catch is nice aka shelf. Noise is not to bad and it starts up very easy. Made in USA and the designed in Colorado. tow it around with the Side by Side and truly if you are doing a lot of wood (more than 15 cords) get one that splits into fourths but this is one awesome machine easy to stand it up on end Love it would get one over and over again !!!
One thing to note is it is close to being on the heavy side to lift and hitch up but really not bad

Assembly is straight forward, although it would be helpful to have 2 strong persons available or a crane of some type to deal with the weight of the tank assembly and beam. Good quality for a reasonable price. Engine starts on the first or second pull in warmer weather, but it can be balky at 25 F or below

Love the design of this tool. Just split about five cord of Notty spruce that was freshly cut wet and very green. This machine chewed through nots that were as large as six inches across with no trouble. Love the Kohler engine. If it seems difficult to pull you may have stalled the engine under cylinder load. Once it restarts it is just fine. Check all of your hydraulic line fittings at first start up. One of mine was loose and leaked, but after I tightened it I had no further problems. The wood handling rack is a God send and makes all the difference in the world. I would also recommend replacing all the nuts on the wood handling rack with nylon nuts. I highly recommend this product. Don't hesitate to get the 27 ton ram. You won't regret this decision. It Flys through 48 to 60 inch rounds. Great job Dirty Hand Tools.

Bought this online even though some reviews were poor. Couldn't turn it away for the price, a lot of splitter for the money, watch the you-tube video about it ...you will want one. Comes in a huge crate...over 600lb. about 3 hours to assemble...I took my time and used a lot of locktite , also put some of the commercial grade padding from the shipping box between the I-beam and the towing bar to keep the noise down....it does help. didn't start at first....hey dummy, turn the switch to run!. anyways, it runs fantastic at all speeds and I split 3-4 nites of oak in about 15 min. don't know if I need to break-in the engine but Im using it at 2/3 throttle for now. BTW napa has the aw46 oil. ERIC A.

Splitter was well packaged, arrived without damage, although the semi truck couldn't deliver to my home so have an alternate site with a fork lift available. Assembly was straight forward, but you will need a shop crane or helper to maneuver sections. Was shipped without hydraulic oil or motor oil so factor that cost into purchase price.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by packerbackerkaren My 85 year old husband was really impressed and is sorry he didn't get one sooner, liked how easy and smooth it worked.
With the help of a friend, due to the weight of the top portion, it went together very easily. The price was decent for the quality. The fact that Home Depot did not charge delivery was a blessing. Thank you for a quality product.

I have used the 27 ton splitter now for about a month and have been impressed with how much strength it has. Previously I had used a 6 ton electric DR splitter that did ok but this one is so so so much better.
The engine always starts up with one pull or two and the wedge has never gotten stuck.
After using the splitter for about 1 1/2 hours the oil will heat up and you cannot touch the cylinder or hoses with your bare hands, so use gloves. Guess this is due to the constant moving of oil in the system. I just shut it down, stack what I split and then start it up again, once it is cooled down.
I do have minor drip leaks at 2 or 3 of the hose connections, but it is a minor thing.
Overall I am pleased with the splitter.

have split pine and oak rounds fresh cut to max height and diameter of 25in.. because i'm not very strong i use the log splitter in the vertical position, and roll rounds into splitting position. no more sledge an wedge to split logs.
