What size is the shipping crate

will the shipping crate need to be hauled in a trailer for future assembly or could it be loaded into a pickup truck box
Asked by: jacksnipe
I didn't measure but it seemed to be approximately 6 ft long x 3 ft wide, by 2 ft high. Fits in the back of a pickup truck.

Can Lift Gate Delivery option be purchased?

Is there an option for Lift Gate Delivery (delivery driver off loads crate to ground level).?
Asked by: woodcutter
Most online vendors recommended the liftgate option (at extra cost) for home deliveries. They also said it is generally curbside delivery. Ordering from the Home Depot website allowed, I believe, the option store or home destination.

Does the Unit come with all the oil for this price

Asked by: Darek
No, and it takes 8 gallons max (at least 6.5 to work). Also, I had to add engine crankcase oil (about 1.6 quarts).

28-Ton Gas Log Splitter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, easy assembly It was delivered right on time. Took about 2 hours to put together. Started right up after fluids were put in. Have used the splitter in both vertical and horizontal to split approximately 2 cords of hard wood so far. I have not had a problem, the splitter is working great and I wood highly recommend this unit. The splitter is heavy so I would recommend to get a trailer dolly to make moving the unit easier.

The splitter has the power to split knotty wood as well as black gum. the speed isn't 10.5 seconds. it closer to 12 sec. I purchased this model because of the pump output and engine displacement. there is a minor leak at the fitting connected to the cylinder. that's why i gave it 3 stars. maybe a little harsh but I think of down time to fix it myself or spend the time to take it in for warranty work

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Log Splitter Log Splitter arrived well crated . Very easy to assemble. And let me say this, I should have purchased this years ago. Split more wood in an hour then I would have done in a day before. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied I have about 10 hours on the splitter so far, very happy with it. Had a 40" ash tree get taken down and splitter handled everything with no problem. Was easy to assemble, plan on having a helping hand tho. Overall very satisfied and would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fastest cycle time If you are looking for a new log splitter, then do your homework! Don't just look at the fancy ton rating or the engine with the most horsepower. The features in the Dirty Hand Tools splitter are the features that matter. For my, the key component was the volume rating on the hydraulic pump. This baby really runs at the rated 10-11 second cycle time. I really am splitting at almost 3x the speed of my old splitter. It's just darned awesome.! I did have to make a support call when assembling it and found their support to be better than my expectations. Stop looking around, just get it......this is the one....what are you waiting for?

I found the best price was by ordering online at Home Depot--they would assemble it at no extra charge and I could tow it home (Delivery to home probably would have meant paying extra $50 for lift gate to have it left at side of road; very difficult for me to get 615 pound crated package up my driveway). After making the decision to purchase, I waited until the next morning to place the order--OOPS!--Now the price on the Web page was $45 higher! It arrived at Home Depot about a day sooner than predicted, and after waiting a few more days for the assembly crew to come by, it was ready. I towed it home and examined it. Two nuts on the log catcher were visibly only hand-tightened (no problem because I planned to check tightness of all nuts and bolts). One hub cap was missing (I didn't notice it missing at the store; it likely fell off on the way home) and that wheel was a little loose. After filling up with oil, hydraulic fluid and gas, I was pleased that it started on the first tug. After splitting a small load of wood, I noticed a leak at the hose-to-pump connection. The other end of the hoses, with visible thread sealant, did not leak. The splitter handles hickory, oak, and maple with ease. The included stripper plates and log catcher facilitate wedge return and multiple splits. The cranked jack at the front helps keep the splitter level, although the handle needs a bungee to keep it from hanging down when towing. I've had it less than two weeks and have only split about 1/3 cord of wood, but it appears like it will be quite satisfactory.

I've had mine for less than 6 months and it has been in the shop for most of that. It leaked out of the detent valve after an hour of use. Brought it in for warranty repair, and when I got it back it still leaked from the detent and now leaks from another hydraulic connection. When it worked it worked as expected. On a positive note, their warranty people are super helpful and responsive. They authorized the shop to reseal all the hydraulic connections both times without any question (main reason I give it a 4). They are now sending a new detent valve to the shop. Fingers crossed this fixes the issues and I have many years of use...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value Bought this after first experience using borrowed machines. That taught me that 28 ton rating was minimum for the oak wood I mostly need to split. Also taught me to look for certain features. Although a little pricier than others, the Dirty Hand unit is well worth the price. Features I like that cheaper units do NOT come with: - engine exhaust is directed away from operator - adjustable ht. jack stand on hitch tongue- easier setup on uneven rough ground - shutoff valve on fuel tank - important to insure reliable restarts after storage for months - attached waterproof container for important papers - log round loading tray on side of splitting ram makes job run faster Very happy with with Dirty Hand Log Spliter..
