Does the 35 Ton splitter come with a hydraulic oil filter?
Asked by: broken
Yes it comes with a filter pre-installed in the filter housing. See the image attached - the filter is the round thing that is right next to the tires. It is directly connected to the hydraulic oil tank (the long rectangle box that is between the axles.

How do you get it off delivery truck?

How do you get it off delivery truck?
Asked by: Lucylou
the shipping company will (should, at least) call before the delivery. i asked that the truck should be a box truck with a lift gate and pallet jack (which is what they sent for delivery). a semi would not have fit on my driveway and my road is not suitable for a semi to deliver on either

35-Ton Gas Log Splitter with KOHLER 277 cc Engine is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 20.

Assembly is pretty straight forward, was missing a few nuts and bolts and washers. The pallet this came on was falling apart. The instructions said that the engine and beam would have to be unbolted from the pallet - except that neither were bolted to anything at all. Nothing rolled around or was physically damaged at all though. The gas tank looks like someone gouged it with a grinding wheel for a few seconds (see image) and i still have to repaint that since it is bare metal at the moment. It doesn't come with any fluid. So you will have to buy 7 gallons of hydraulic fluid and about a quart and a half of engine oil. (and of course gas for the engine, derp!) Overall it's a solid machine!

There was a miscommunication upon delivery, as when I went to pick it up, it was not assembled, as was agreed upon. A couple days later, I was notified that it was ready. When I picked it up, I noticed several nuts that needed tightening, as well as some of the hoses. The hoses weren't too much of an issue, since I would have double-checked those anyway. But being a 700 lb. machine, I thought it was important all the nuts holding it together should have been tightened properly, especially since it is towed behind a vehicle. Overall a good experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast Mode I originally bought this 35 ton splitter so my friend would stop bragging about how amazing his 22 ton version is. It worked. He hasn't mentioned his wonderful splitter since. Then I realized that there was more to it than the end of the bravado babble. This machine powers through any knotted wood that I put in front of it. I have about 3-4 hours of run time on it. While using it, there were times when I would have rotated or moved the wood for a different approach with the 22 ton splitters of others. With this one, I just hold the handle and slice through. It didn't care, Neither did I. Great product!

It is a beast even on tough wood. The only negative comes to the shipping company. My splitter arrived at the home depot store in a busted up crate missing bolts and all tie downs. However, the splitter was not damaged. So, with help of the home depot associates we managed to load the pieces onto my trailer. I need to note that home depot employees are instructed not to help with busted up shipping problems, it is against policy. The question is why would home depot sell large heavy items and not have adequate handling equipment to help with the loading or unloading process. This is a management problem. Yes, it is free shipping and that is good but when your product arrives at the store it is your problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Star Review Rating provided by a verified purchaser
Date published: 2017-07-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from What it doesn't split, it either cuts off or crushes into tiny bits. Getting the box off the truck was the only challenge. As other reviewers have noted, the crate is long so shippers load it end wise and can't turn it on the truck easily, so in order to get it off the truck I had to use a little creativity and rest my tractor bucket on top of the box and hook a wide tow strap down under the pallet twist the bucket backward until it lifted it 'cantilevered' from one end (or as far as I could get my bucket towards center of the box). The box obviously isn't designed to handle this, and while it didn't break, it sagged, creaked, and groaned quite a bit. Inside the box it was packaged quite well with the exception of two bolts and washers (used to mount the motor) that came undone and were loose in the box. During assembly the only issue of note was the shaft length on the wheels appears to be too long, causing the cotter pins holding the castle nut to be barely engaged. I expected there to be a second hole for the cotter pin in closer, but none existed. Everything else went together as one would expect. I have split about 3 cord of wood thus far, 28" oak, 36" maple, and 20" birch using the 4 way splitter attachment. The only issue of note is that I have found the 4 way splitter guard (that pushes wood off the wedge during retraction) is too small near the handle. On two occasions the retracting wood piece missed the guard and instead hits the control handle. Luckily my hand wasn't on the handle and nothing broke, but didn't feel good about watching the control handle push wood off the wedge with no way to stop it. The Kohler engine is strong and has started with one pull every time. I did find the choke a bit ‘aggressive’ though in that you have to back off the choke almost immediately or it sounds like the engine will just flood out. I’ve been running the motor at about ¾ full throttle most of the time and seem to get more than enough power. I only had one piece that exceeded the splitter's capabilities and it was a really nasty 30" piece of maple that was just a giant knot with grain going in every direction. I happened to place the wedge right where the grain tuned sideways under the surface, so I just turned the piece a bit and found a weaker cross section and the splitter powered (mostly cut) its way through. As a few other reviewer have noted though, the fluid does get pretty hot, although in fairness I am splitting some really nasty wood at the moment. I’ve been stopping the splitting when the fluid gets hot enough to where I can’t hold my ungloved hand on the cylinder for more than a second, which has been after about 2/3 of a tank of gas. It does make me wish the tank had an option for a small heat exchanger to help it cool. It is a heavy unit, and putting the arm back down (vertical > horizontal) does take some muscle. I am 6', 180" and sometimes have to stand up on the frame and brace my foot against the pivot to pull hard enough to get it back over center. This is my first splitter and have been splitting 5 cords per year by hand up until now, can't believe I waited this long to get my hands dirty with a Dirty Hand Tools splitter. I am now splitting stuff that I would have just pushed into the brush pile I were still doing it by hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have bought this a long time ago I did a LOT of research and determined this unit to be the best thing out there and I was definitely right !! This thing is amazing, quick cycle time, EXTREMELY heavy duty, will split ANYTHING I throw at it. It came packed great in a coffin sized box, only took me a couple hours to assemble by myself, quick trip to the store for some hydraulic fluid and motor oil and I was splitting wood in no time. I highly recommend this unit to anyone.....like my father always said "Never be afraid to buy the best, you'll always be happy with it".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best splitter in its class After having a 34/ton Gravely that I broke 3 of. Yes 3 broke. I purchased DHT 35 ton and have ran it through its paces now and I am nothing but pleased. Built well and very strong and heavy. Only thing is I think the hyd tank could be a couple gallons larger witha 17 gpm pump under no load this thing passes the tank capacity almost 3 times in one minute. But I work on hyd for a living and I'm more picky than most.
