Answer:
The unit uses Passive Infrared (PIR), body heat, to detect motion, so your cat would set it off.

Of course, if a person (i.e. kid) figures that out, they can crawl on the floor and avoid the motion detector field. Read Less

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Low Cost Security Alarm for Home and Travel We have used this product for more than six years and currently own six of them. The alarm uses a nine volt battery which lasts for more than a year of use. The unit is portable and can be set on a surface or mounted to a flat surface with screws. The chime is quite loud and useful when at home to let you know someone has entered into the monitored secured space. The alarm is extremely loud and and disorienting which is again excellent. Unit gives you adequate time to activate and leave area, and is very easy to activate and deactivate. Motion sensor is not over sensitive and will not give false detection. Take one when your traveling so that you can secure your hotel room or travel trailer. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by works well I like that I can set this on the floor or a table so it can be used anywhere we need it. I wish the labels were easier to read for the chime off and alarm settings. It can be nerve shattering when it is mistakenly put on alarm instead of chime or when it accidentally gets put on alarm when you think you have put it on "off". I love that it resets itself when there is no movement in front of it. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good home motion detector alarm This small motion detector is perfect for us. We have a foster child that roams at night and especially likes to hit the kitchen. We sit in on the kitchen table and it alerts us to his intrusions. The alarm is a loud one, but not as shrill/high pitched as a smoke detector. The chime option is too low, in my opinion. The only drawback is that to slide the switch to the off position, you can't help but set the alarm off. It really needs a remote on/off or some means to turn off without it going off. For the price, you cannot beat it. Uses a 9-volt battery, which is included. The written instructions tell you that is has a 30 degree field of vision, horizontally and vertically. An illustration would have been helpful, as you can't be sure where that field exactly is. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Doberman security alarm Like it.very loud alarm will wake you up.no remote control. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Motion Detector This is the greatest little motion detector! I have purchased four(4); two(2) were given as gifts. I highly recommend this product for anyone who desires a product which will alert you when someone, or something, passes through the invisible beam. You can choose between a chime (doorbell sound) or a very loud alarm... easily activated by a switch on the face of the unit. September 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT i use it to keep dogs out of rooms i don't want them use high pitch tone works GREAT September 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by startlingly loud easily installed, very loud you won't sleep thru it. too sensitive our flag blowing in the wind sets it off August 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LOUD! I bought the alarm because someone, or something has been coming onto my back porch at night. But, when I tested it, it was so loud, It would wake people up blocks away. It needs a volume control. April 28, 2015
