Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Senek Could be somewhat better
hile the device has a fairly loud (if not "screeching") alarm to go with its bright flashing light, it seems as if the manufacturer has made it all too easy for someone intent on breaking into a home to just flick the switch to turn the device off.
Putting the switch out of plain sight or, better yet, required a code to be entered into a keypad would increase its effectiveness considerably.

LOVE this little alarm. My neighbor's cat won't stay out of my side yard. This little alarm detects that furball the instant it approaches it's favorite pooping spot. The alarm is darn loud and kitty can't run away fast enough. The alarm sounds for about 20 seconds and shuts off, so I don't have to do anything.
Had mine for about two years and it stopped working (it's been sitting on the ground for 2 years). Went to Depot to get another but it's not in stores, so here I am to buy another. Nothing like it for $20. It's awesome.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rose BEST PURCHASE EVER Installed in garden to keep deer away
They really scare the deer. It was necessary to install then angled toward the ground because they are quite sensitive and picked up neighbors hundreds of feet away walking or mowing. Even then they go off randomly, birds? We don't know but THIS IS THE BEST PURCHASE I EVER MADE. ABSOLUTELY NO DEER DAMAGE THE NIGHT AFTER I INSTALLED THEM.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JJJJJJ No detection with this one...
Item does not work. No light. Only a siren and then, not every time it should. Overpriced and does not work correctly? Not buying from this company again... Now have to return it to Home Depot. Another wasted trip for nothing...

This little battery operated light fixture is a great way to keep remote steps, walkways , porches and dark corners sufficiently well lighted. An infra red light keeps the device ready to automatically turn on when after dark you pass in front of the device. I have placed these out in areas where I have no electricity . They are really a great value. They easily mount. It uses regular AA alkaline batteries. If you plan on using this device outside in the very cold weather ( well below freezing) only lithium batteries will work best.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Samuel Knowing when kids are up at night
I set the alarm in different places each night, so the kids don't know where it will be. Now, I know if the kids are up in the middle of the night and it would also be a great thing if we actually had a burglar.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bolsterman Excellent as a proximity alarm
Try and find a reliable, loud, battery-operated proximity alarm for under $20 like the Doberman! I use these for a short-range proximity audio alarm around air conditioner condenser units. Thieves will steal the copper guts of an A/C condenser unit to sell as scrap to unethical contractors for $60, but it costs me $2500 to replace the unit. These little alarms, placed near the unit, make a frightful racket (100 dB) when you get within about 3 yards, giving me warning to confront the thieves in a way they don't like. Ignore the silly person who downgrades the unit for taking 3xAA instead of 3xAAA; the AA batteries give much longer battery life. And also ignore the delicate flower who wants these sold with a remote control; that would easily double the price, or more. If you can't abide the sound of the alarm as you retrieve it, then (1) use the 7-second delay function built into the unit; or (2) plug your ears. Doberman, if you read these reviews, please do NOT add a remote. These work great as simple, effective alarms.

This is a nice little night light. I put it above my front door and it works well to light the way to the door in a soft, friendly sort of way. But as a light to scare away intruders? I don't think so. BUT, in all fairness, I have to say that I didn't try the light/alarm feature because I didn't want to bother my neighbors. True, I could have tried it in an inside closet, but I didn't. The alarm light might be brighter and the alarm could be horrendous but I don't know. But it is good for helping you see your way to the front door at night. I am recommending this as a NIGHT LIGHT only--not as as INTRUDER DISCOURAGER!
