Possibly, but it doesn't chirp, it emits a very loud signal that I imagine could be quite startling and confusing for someone with dementia.

How easy are they to set and turn off?

I'm thinking of installing these on the doors to my elderly parents home. Dad has Alzheimer's and we need a way to alert Mom if he goes outside. Mom is short, hard of hearing, vision impaired and has arthritis in her fingers. If the door is open and the alarm is sounding, how hard is it to stop the alarm? Is there a button you have to push on it to set it or turn it off?

Answer:
The alarm will go back off when the door is closed again. Otherwise, just flip a little switch on the side of it to turn the alarm off altogether (i.e. when you don't want it on)

You will need to manually turn it off. There's on/off switch on the unit. We have another model come with remote so you will be able to turn it on/off by using the remote. The item number is SE-0119.

Answer:
You can place these alarms on windows. Each piece placed directly across from the other as you would on a door and door jamb. Open the window to desired height, high enough to ventilate but not high enough to allow someone to crawl in. Turn the alarm on...it will SOUND if someone tries to push the window up higher.
You would NOT want to put alarms on the screen.

The two pieces have to be beside each other so that if the connection is broken, the alarm sounds.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 76 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Home Security Window/Door Alarm Kit Apparently, Home Depot doesn't check to see if an item has already been reviewed "before" requesting another review. I have already reviewed this item. But, happy to do it again. These little alarms are incredibly easy to install. I'd say it took me maybe a minute or less to put up the first one. All you do is remove the paper off of the sticky backing and put in place. One piece goes on door jamb, the other on the door, and they must be as close together as possible and exactly right next to each other. Make sure you pull the little plastic tab out of the battery compartment, turn on the switch and the alarm is ready to let you know if anyone opens your door...or window. So far, mine have worked just fine. The only reason I didn't give an overall "Excellent" rating is, I'm wondering how long the batteries last and what they cost to replace them. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far...Good product. So far, I think this is a good product. You can turn them on and off. The sound when the alarm is triggered is quite loud and high pitched. Extremely easy to attach, just peel the tape from the back. These alarms can be used on door and windows. To be sure they can be heard well, I don't think they should be used in a large home...too much space, rooms, between alarm locations. My only concern....how long do the batteries last and what will they cost to replace. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Affordable and works well It couldn't be easier to install. A word of caution: If you have inside mount blinds, make sure they clear the device when you are opening or closing the blinds. I've scared the living daylight out of myself twice because I dislodged the device. July 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value Have had these for several years. Tricky part is replacing batteries - have learned to scotch tape the three batteries together, and makes insertions much easier. Good, loud noise. Super simple to install. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Doberman Door/Window Alarms I have had these four alarms for maybe 2 weeks now and so far, I have no complaints. They are super easy to use, no muss, no fuss. It took me maybe 30 seconds or less to attach one to my front door and door jamb. I then put one on the back door and another door in the house. They turn on and off with a little switch. Just remember to turn the alarm off before you open the door, the sound is very high pitch and shrill. I'm just wondering how long the batteries last and how much they are to replace in each alarm. I would suggest only turning them on at night when you go to bed or when you want to monitor a particular door or window during the day, it'll save the batteries if they're not on constantly. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product for the money Easy to install and does what I was looking for whithout paying monthly monitoring fees. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Security I find it loud enough when I tested it during the night when it's quiter. My front door it's flush with post (opening) but as long as they are somewhat close together it will work just fine, the alarm will go off once they are about an inche apart. If any of your door open in or outwards you can flip the end with the switch upside down as well and it works just the same. I placed one each on the kids bedroom window however due to the window design I had to place the smaller piece straight down instead of having it sideways as shown and it will still work. My reason for not giving five stars is just because I wish it was a bit louder for those nights when you may be extra tired and in a deeper sleep. Also, if someone opens the door it will go off but it will stop as soon as the door is closed. So if someone opens the door the alarm will go off but stops right away if the door was closed. I think it should stay on until you switch it off. July 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Loud but won't stick The product would be great if it would stay on. Three of the four fell off multiple times in the first few days til we gave up. July 26, 2016
