installation question

In the installation instructions it stated that we need to drill holes in the threshold , which in our case is our tub. We have a cast iron tub and we drilled 2 holes, but that chipped out tub paint. Did we understand it wrong? do we really need to drill holes in the tub or we did it wrong? We needed holes to install the guide block (12) (see page 10 in the installation guide and see attached picture). 12. Drill the holes for the Guide block (12) and the Threshold bracket (16) using Ø 1/8” drill bit. Apply silicone to the bottom of the Anti-splash threshold (15) and place it back into the designated position. Fasten the Guide block and the Threshold bracket to the shower base or threshold with the Round head screw ST4.2×25 (17). Cover the holes with the provided decorative plugs. See Fig. 14 for details. Please let me know if that is correct.

The manual is online in case the manual referenced in your situation does not match. Not clear if you did the directions wrong or not.

Customer Reviews

Enigma-X 59 in. x 62 in. Frameless Sliding Tub Door in Polished Stainless Steel is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Tub/Shower Door The door looks amazing! Operation is very smooth. All the materials are high quality and very robust. I'm a DIY'er, and I was able to install this, but it was very difficult. The glass panes are heavy, especially with the bar attached. It took three people to put the stationary pane in place and hold it so that I could mark the places for the screws. Also, this door requires a 2-3/4" tub threshold, which I didn't have. I was able to make it work, though. The installation instructions, though thorough, we're printed incorrectly; some of the illustrations were so faint that I could hardly see them. Those things aside, this is a great product, and I'm very happy with it. If you're not a serious DIY'er, though, I strongly recommend you get the door professionally installed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good buy I had read about that this was hard to install. Thankfully I had 2 good guys to do it for me, it took about an hour and a half, so not so bad. It is a super-heavy piece and keep in mind if you have curb-side delivery and live in a walk-up apt, you should be ready to pay the delivery guys some extra cash to bring it upstairs. It looks fantastic and I love the thickness of the glass. In all a great buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks spectacular I have to say this door looks amazing. If you spent a lot of money on shower tile like me, just pay extra for this door--it really looks spectacular. I had a bunch of people over and everyone complemented the new shower door. Cons-like people said, only opens on one side but that doesn't bother me; also, even the professionals had a hard time installing it...I would not recommend trying to install it yourself unless you are a person that does this often.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought 3 I purchased three of these. One for shower and two for baths. Overall very good quality. We love them. Couple things to note: 1. You walls have to be aplomb 2. The glass is greenish/blue not crystal clear 3. On the third door the door handle was a not quite straight. And one of the plastic shields needed to be cut. Not sure if this was because our installer did something wrong. Otherwise, very good value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful door. Hard to install. Only opens on one side. As with most reviews here on this door, the Pros are its a beautiful sturdy door. Cons are it only opens on one side and installation definitely takes a professional. Even our Professional mentioned how hard it was to install. Not a DIY install. Took the Professional 4 hrs to install. The door opening on only one side makes it somewhat inconvenient to clean and turn on the shower/tub (you can change the side of the fixed door but entering on that side is inconvenient as well. Other than those minor issues, very happy with the quality and look of this door.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from beautiful but.... Beautiful doors, my bathroom looks gorgeous now... but... i wish we would have thought it through a little more, with one stationary door, its so hard to clean the tub and walls now.. I have to literally get inside the tub to clean. Also, we have the stationary door on the left, and that is where our faucet and shower head and controls are!! We actually have to get in the tub to turn it on!! How frustrating! Not sure if thats our fault for not thinking it thru, or a design flaw. Very strange. Glad my kids are older and i'm not giving baths anymore because it would be impossible to give a small child a bath with one stationary door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Door! We're extremely happy with our Enigma-X tub door. The door is of outstanding quality, glides as smooth as silk, and is a real focal point of our newly renovated bathroom. The clear glass makes our small bathroom seem much larger than it is. I worked with our contractor on the install. You'll want to take your time with the install, follow the instructions and measure carefully. It's definitely a 2-person job since the glass panels are quite heavy. We configured our door to open on the end where the shower head is located and found that a small amount of water would splash through the gap under the sliding panel and puddle on the floor - probably due to our over-sized shower head. I contacted customer service and they were very friendly and helpful. They sent me a deflector strip to attach to the door bottom which solved the problem completely.
