Does the installation require drilling into the tub? We have a cast steel tub and do not want it to chip.

Do the shelves HAVE to be installed?

I do not want the shelves, but like the more middle entry of the shower as my vanity would partially block the shower side entry. This would also allow to more easily bathe a child. The other model you mentioned - SHDR-1960582-01, does not have that middle entry. Do you have any other options if the shelves are not optional?

Answer:
jagirl, Yes, the shelves must be installed as they are the source of support for that small panel. The DreamLine Visions shower door opens in the middle, but it is not as frameless as the Mirage. Another door to consider is the DreamLine Butterfly. You can put both those model names in the Home Depot search field and they will come up. Customer Reviews

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice modern door The door is frameless on top (not the bottom). I've read complaints about the support bar on other websites, but it can be cut down a few inches. With a darker tile it is really not that noticeable. The built in shelves are a nice touch. My contractor installed the door without any problems. March 23, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT PURCHASE WITHOUT LOOKING AT ALL THE PICTURES This was the worst decision I made, just looking at the first few pictures on this website I did not notice the support bar. Since there is insufficient support for the heavy glass there is a big ugly support bar that must be installed from the door to the wall of your shower or your glass door will come crashing down. I called the company and there is no other option then this bar across your shower corner. There is a drawing of this on the last picture on here so make sure to check out the drawing before you order. March 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful product A beautiful product. Exceptionally attractive. The installation manual is good but it's all line drawings, so it requires a lot of thought to implement. All it needs is a few photographs to go with the manual or online at the support link. Tip that should be in the manual. When you try to install the moving door, which is the heaviest, on the two screws of the rollers, put a small but strong stand in the tub to rest it on and add a big book or so till you have the holes in the glass raised near the level of the screws. Then you only have to lift it once. Now, tilt one side of the glass up and put on a bolt. Then tilt the other side up and put on a bolt. Now that you've got the weight supported, take off one bolt, lift the glass a bit, and slide on the plastic piece that cushions the glass against the screws and reattach the bolt. Do the same with the other side. Remember to keep the top in place until you slip on the second part of the sliding attachment. You do need two people to install the sliding door. Even if you're a husky guy, you only have two hands. February 10, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Engineering Design Must admit that this shower door is heavy duty construction. However, the brush nickel finish does rust a little after a year or so. Very difficult to clean especially between the two doors where they overlap and down where the roller, door and bottom rail meets. But the kicker here is the roller and bottom rail design. The door is extremely heavy and so the rollers will wear out after a year. Now get this. The rollers cannot be removed from the bottom rail without totally dismantling the entire door system. If you don't believe, call their technical support just to inquire. So, if the stationary wall panel is silicone in place that has to be cut away as well as the silicone used to seal down the bottom rail. This is bordering on ridiculous. If you cannot replace the rollers yourself, it's like paying for an installation all over again each time the rollers go bad. Didn't realized this when my door was installed. Realized when they sent me new rollers under the warranty and had to devise a way to replace them. Because these issues, I would not recommend anyone buying the model door. Stay away. April 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very expensive door but very nice Ok, we wanted a frameless shower door and paid the extra $$ for this one. We orginally ordered it in chrome, and didn't realize we needed brushed nickel so there was another month waiting to get the one we needed. It's a beautiful door, however be aware that it is not TOTALLY frameless. There is a (2 1/2"-3") bottom frame. The top portion is in fact frameless. I'm not sure if it's worth the money. I'm glad we have it, but would have felt it was REALLY worth it if it was about $150 less than what we paid (over $700). January 24, 2014
