The gate was a breeze to install and required no tools. I'm not at all handy but the directions were clear and it assembled easily & was ready for use. Perfect barrier to the stairs for my small dogs! Functions nicely & closes automatically behind me.

This gate works perfectly for our needs. We wanted a gate that sits securely at the top of our stairs; could handle easily the occasional pounces from a 45-lb excited dog; would open at the touch of a finger while staying securely in place; and would close itself automatically, quietly, and at just the right speed. We also wanted something that was relatively easy to install and looks attractive in our space. This gate does all that. It's so easy and intuitive to install that we really didn't need the directions, although we did check them once in order to improve the top gate alignment. The item was well packaged and delivered before the day promised. This was our first time ordering on-line from Home Depot and it was definitely a great experience for us.

Received the gate today, the handle/catch is bent about 2 inches from the part it latches into. The handle is also filthy, with orange and brown crud all over it.

So, the key question you may be asking and what I am here to tell you is that, yes, this gate can extend to cover a much larger gap. We currently have the basic gate (29.5in), one 7in extender on one side, and two 39in extenders on either side of that (total = 29.5+7+39+39=114.5in). The kid isn't quite mobile enough yet to repeatedly ram the barrier, but it feels sturdy enough to me to withstand anything but the most concerted efforts at demolition.
The only reason we didn't add the second 7inch extender is that we didn't need it. You can't go beyond that in terms of extending further though, as the 7inches are set in place with a slide but the other larger extenders are not (so adding any more than one bigger extender on any one side of the gate will make the barrier much less robust).
We didn't screw the caps into the wall, but just used the glue pads provided (which the instructions said we could do.)

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 2899 The gate is fine, however, the screw pads that attach it are worthless
The gate answers my needs --I live in a assisted living facility and I need to keep my dog within my patio, away from other residents and visitors. This product serves that purpose but the screw pads that fasten it to the wall are not any good. They do not remain tight and certainly not secure.

This is my third gate I have tried. I use my gates to keep my toy and mini Australian Sheppard's in the kitchen/family room off the carpet when I'm not home. My mini is a Houdini. He climbed the plastic gate, he chewed and climbed the wooden gate or he would figure out how to unlatch it.
This gate is metal so its no fun to chew, it has no cross bars so he can't climb it, and the release switch is on top so he can't get to it.
This gate works like a charm....two things I wish were different:
Wish the gate was a bit taller and the release switch was a bit more sturdier.
I am buying a second one as I write and giving all the other gates away!

This gate arrived on time and barely required much effort or know-how to install. We didn't want a permanent gate, so every so often we need to tighten the bolts on the side. (I do that without any tools.) My husband was dreading having this; he was envisioning having to climb over it, but it turned out to be perfect. I like how it swings to a close. We use it to section off an area of kitchen from our puppy.
