Product Overview

A shank with a screw-like head. Used primarily with Dremel polishing bits and accessories. For best results, insert the mandrel all the way into the tool and then back it out slightly before tightening down. This provides plenty of shank for the collect or chuck to hold onto. Simply remove the screw, line up a cut-off wheel or sanding band over the hole in the shank and replace and tighten the screw.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can this 1.5 mandrel fit a dremel 4200 to attach 3 in. saw max blades

Asked by: rocky
No, this mandrel is only to be used to attach cut off wheels to rotary tools. Saw max blades are only to be put on saw max tool. There is no mandrel needed, only the washer along with the lock bolt.

Customer Reviews

1-1/2 in. Mandrel for Discs, Wheels, and Sanding Bands is rated 1.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's not as hard as you think! I'm not an avid tool user, but I do use my dremel for small projects (like adding a bevel to my drawing board to prevent artwork from slipping off). I actually had no issue with the mandrill. I found it works best if you screw it into the dremel, then hold the ferrule for grip/support, and use a short screwdriver to remove the screw. I do agree with another reviewer though, in that there should be mandrill screws sold separately, since the mandrill is way stronger than the screw itself, so having to replace the entire piece is kind of a waste.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality This mandrel came in the attachment kit with my recently purchased Model 3000. When I went to attach a cutting disc the small screw pulled right out. After reading other reviews this appears to be a common problem with this mandrel. So I decided to go ahead and spend money on the EZ Lock mandrel and associated cutting wheel. It was frustrating that I had to spend additional $ for the EZ Lock mandrel and EZ Lock attachments, but don't waste your money on the 402 mandrel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken screw, just like others I was very careful with this mandrel, particularly after reading some of the reviews about broken screws. I would back the screw out slowly until the threads jumped, and then finger tighten it to prevent cross threading. Well even being this careful, the screw eventually got stuck and snapped off inside. I wouldn't be as upset if these things were cheaper, but at this price it really shouldn't be this fragile.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I would rate 0 but I'm not allowed to. Screw wouldn't go back in after changing out one of the (also cheaply made) 409 blades and now my project is impossible to finish. Tried cleaning the threads out and still gets stuck. The screw eventually snapped in half... Go figure. What a waste of my time and money. The 409 blades are also garbage. The metal that they're supposedly able to cut instead just ate the blade down to nothing in about 2 minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Teensie Screw Driver There's a wrench in the kit. The other end of the wrench is the screw driver, to be used on the teensie screw. Even my sewing machine screwdrivers are too hard of a metal to be used on this teensie screw. This is a 3000, maybe dremel fixed things with this model???

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Below 2 star avg. on most famous accessory I have owned four Dremel over the span of 25 years and it shocks me how poor quality and a sub 2 star review does not inspire a change in design. I am tired of throwing away money on replacing these mandrels when the screw breaks or gets lost.
