Certain bits will possibly explode when operated at more than the recommended speed of turning. Remember when machining material from a piece, or simply shaping, there is a recommended "Feed and Speed". How much you force the material against the turning or cutting surface is considered the "feed", and the "speed" is the RPM of the turning cutting surface. Also with Dremill products, you can't spin for instance a "quick cutoff wheel" full speed, not as fast as say the carbide burr, which works best at of near full speed. The operator needs to be responsible for his or her safety when selecting the specific RPM for what bit is installed & to have the most lifetime from the bit used. I spin the 1/2 inch sanding drum as slow as I can get away with, where the router bits at near or full speed. Remember to wear eye protection when using replaceable cutoff blades as they do & will come apart when their mode of failure will happen. Read Less

I noticed that this tool comes in 3 different kits (1/28, 2/28 and n/30). I know that the first digit is # of batteries and the second is the # of accessories but what does the 'n' in the n/30 model stand for?

I use it with a special grinding wheel to trim dog toe nails. So I do need one with power and good battery life.

Hello SalsaGirl,
The 12-Volt Max would be more than enough power for pet grooming needs. As a safety precaution I would keep the power moderated to the lower end of the power band. Dremel also makes a purpose built tool which can be found at the link below. I hope this helps.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cordless rotary tool I bought this recently and have been very happy with it. I had purchased an off brand and the motor went out in less than a year. I have a corded Dremel for 20 years and it still works like it is new. I really like the flexibility the cordless 8220 offers and the durability of both the unit and the battery. May 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool! I previously owned a different brand and I enjoyed using it making crafts and small jobs around the house, until it broke one day. My boyfriend bought me a Dremel 8220 and I couldn't believe what a difference! It was like going from driving a Volkswagen to driving a Cadillac! I love it! May 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Its great Its great to have dermel, its very handy, thank you January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loved it so far! I asked for this for my birthday (September) this past year. I haven't had a project yet that it hasn't been able to handle. I only do light work but it cut through some small (1/4") steel pieces no problem with the reinforced blade. I also used it to clean up some rusted hinges on my car, no problem. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a cordless rotary tool, well worth the price! October 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I wish I would have bought it sooner I've had a corded Dremel rotary tool for years so it was hard for me to justify purchasing the cordless rotary tool until I had a project that made it too much of a hassle to get an extension cord to where I needed to do the work. I wish that I had bought this sooner. It is so much more convenient. I haven't noticed any drop in power as compared to my corded tool. And the 12v battery and charger are both compatible with the 12v Dremel Multi-max that I also own. So now I have multiple batteries to rely upon. I'm very happy with my purchase. April 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dremel Tool This is an excellent tool, does everything well. The lack of a cord is especially nice since you are not tethered to a wall socket. The battery life is OK but would be better if it lasted longer - but the battery does recharge quickly. I may get another battery. May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great features I bought this about a month and a half ago and it works great, the variable speed and power are the best things about this tool. I dropped it once and it kept on going.iam very glad i made the purchase. June 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very handy tool I have been using it almost every time I need to fix something in the house: whether it's so sand something out, cut some PVC pipe or even downspout, re-adjust door know, drill holes into a vent pipe,.... April 13, 2015
