Lowes has better ones at the store...more expensive but worth it. They last a lot longer

Purchased these carbon water filters for my whole house filter which has bad taste and smell. So far, while the taste and smell isn't 100% removed, it has improved enough to not have it as noticeable. This is not a replacement for a true house water filtration system. This is a good alternative if your issues aren't too severe.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mary Filters are faulty - at least half of them.
Half of the filters do not work, cannot seal the cartridge with a new filter, have replaced rings also - I will have to return half of them. It is not the fault of Home Depot, but the use of a new filter will not seal in the cartridge and water leaks out at the top. Replaced rings also, that does not help.
A professional tried to install these, so it is not me. I am not strong enough to turn the cartridge. They are hard to do, and I have to pay him to do it. At 9-10 dollars per filter, plus the plumbing installer, this is too expensive.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jon144 3-month life based on bacterial accumulation
I believe that the reason for the 3-month limit on useful life is because the filter accumulates bacteria which might become harmful beyond this time. Some filters are impregnated with silver to kill the bacteria and extend the life of the filter when changing it on a three month cycle is impractical. This filter will probably last safely beyond this, but the manufacturer is limiting their liability.

Carbon filters work best. Good product at a decent price.

Unless you have a serious sediment, rust or dirt problem with your well, I prefer the spun cellulose filters.
They usually last 3 to 4 months and sometimes 6 months depending on water usage.
The carbon filters lasted barely more than a month and imparted a slight carbon smell to the water.
I tried them and realize now that I should stick with what works !!
