Thirty or so years ago a local supermarket was bought out by a national chain. The new owners completely remodeled the store including the fixtures. I knew the store manager personally. He called to tell me all the pegboard racks were on the loading dock waiting to be thrown into a recycling bin. If I wanted some of them just come and get them. I picked up 12 pristine sheets of industrial grade melamine coated 4'x4' x1/4" thick tempered hardboard pegboard along with about 200 various configurations of steel pegboard hooks. This pegboard been mounted on the walls of my shop ever since. The holes in this pegboard are 1/4" in diameter. A straight shank 1/4" drill bit will easily slip through the holes. Over the years I have tried Thick CA glue and hot melt glue to keep pegboard hooks from falling out. It works, but only until you decide to reposition the hooks. Recently, doing some remodeling in my shop, "DuraHooks" appeared to be a solution. I ordered two 10-packs to try them out. They come with two sizes of screws. 10 for 1/8" pegboard, and 10 for 1/4" pegboard. The screws are sized so that you will not damage the pegboard if you remove a screw and reposition a hook. Unfortunately, even the larger screws are undersized in my application. After examining these hooks I will note that even if the larger screws worked with my pegboard I would only use them in lighter weight applications. As you will notice in the photographs the screw is positioned at the top of the hook base, so the only thing holding them to the pegboard is the friction created by a single screw's threads. Perfectly fine for hanging wrenches, handsaws, 3 lb. or lighter hammers, etc. Anything heaver would be iffy in my opinion. If the base of the hooks were designed in reverse with the securing screw at the bottom, and the hooked part of the base that enters the pegboard hole at the top; I would be much more confidant in their ability to resist pullout. In any case, I gave them to my son, and the larger screws included fit well in some 1/4" pegboard he bought locally at Home Depot. I would recommend these hooks with the caveat that the included screws are not a universal fit for any and all pegboard you may presently own or possibly procure in the future.
