Product Overview

DuraPlus is designed to stay cool on the outside, to provide a hot draft on the inside, to boost stove efficiency, and to provide for a fire-safe design that protects both the chimney and the building. This triple-wall chimney features two insulating layers (ceramic blanket, plus air space). The ceramic blanket insulation is held securely in position, eliminating hot spots common with loose-fill type insulations. In the event of a creosote fire, the compressible blanket insulation permits the chimney liner to expand outwardly in a radial direction. Designed for normal, continuous operation at 1000 degree F flue gas temperatures, DuraPlus is subjected to rigorous and stringent HT requirements of the UL standard, including one hour at 1400 degrees F, plus three ten minute chimney fire tests at 2100 degrees F.

DuraPlus 6 in. Square Ceiling Support Box and Trim Collar - 24 in. Tall is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nightmare to Set up Before beginning, readers should know that this is the first such project I have done so I am an amateur. That said, I have done moderately complex renovations for many years and I found this support box had a really fatal flaw. The flange in the bottom which receives the top piece of stove pipe from the stove is a friction fit and does not extend below the surface of the box. As a result, you cannot secure the pipe section with keeper screws and must rely upon the friction holding the section in place. Since pipe sections are almost always out of round no matter what you do to true them up, slipping it onto the flange is a near impossibility from below, especially if you have no help (which I did not). Ultimately, I had to snip the flange with tin snips and banana-peel the petals slightly inward. After 6 hours of McGivering a number of attempted solutions only to have the section fall off when I let go, I was ready to give up when at last I jammed the section on hard enough that it held in place. I quickly slipped on the lower section and placed the stove under that to support the whole thing (the pipe sections were telescoping) and keeper-screwed the sections in place. All is solid and vertical now. I only recommend the product because It does look nice now and I may not have known what I should have done differently.
