Customer Questions & Answers

Is this 115 or 220?? hard wired or plug in?

Asked by: ag
Depending on how you hook it up. You can boost it to 5000 watts. I would do it with hard wire and its own breaker. Instructions are clear and concise. As far as changes to be made. Plan on drilling an entry hole, as what is there is too small.

Can I wire from the dryer outlet?

Can I wire this unit to the back of my dryer outlet, which using 240 volt and 30 Amp circuit already? Thanks,
Asked by: Cody
I typed in to my dryer line and put a dryer plug on it and have my 220 welder pluged in to it, have no problems at all, just make sure you do not use the dryer when useing the garage heater, other wise you'll draw to many amps and kick the dryer circiut.

2500-Watt Ceiling Mount Heavy Duty Utility Heater is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Advertized incorrectly Functional but with only one issue I found. Says it is for hardwiring but actual is not. No wiring 1/2" knock out. I had to punch my own as it comes with a 3/8 dia. hole for wiring that appears to be for a cord that was not included. Other that that it works fine to take the chill of my basement and the thermostat operates properly. Fairly reasonable constructed heater. Would by additional units if needed.

The main reason I picked this heater is because it's rated at 2500 watts which is enough as the garage is insulated, most other heaters available are 4000 watts or more, which I did not want due to the higher electric cost. What I did not know until I received the heater (I believe it should be advertised as it will sell more of these) is that the watt rating is selectable. 4 Adjustable power settings: 5000w 17065BTU's, 4165W 14215BTU's, 3332W 11365BTU's, 2500W 8533BTU's This is done by moving jumper wires around when you make the electrical connection. The heater is designed to not bl;ow cold air so when it starts the element heats up, then the fan blows. This leads to a “crinkling” sound as the element is in aluminum fins which expand and contract. This is not a bad thing it is just different from the norm where heater fans blow immediately. It also keeps the fan running after it shuts off which cools the element and extracts the last bit of heat The only thing which could be better are the directions. The jumper positions for changing the wattage has diagrams and fairly simple. The 220v wiring of the unit to power is vague and there is no connection for a Neutral. It requires connecting the hot wires to L1 (Line 1) and L2 (line 2) and Ground wire to Ground screw. Your electrician that installs should know how and the correct gauge wire for the run. It heats well and works like its supposed to and a bargain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I have a 20'x25' stand alone garage with 12' rafters and a concrete floor. When it's cold outside, it's almost as cold inside my garage. I purchased this Duraflame heater to knock off the chill in the morning. I got more than I expected. The heater kicks out some heat. It takes about 30 minutes to take the chill out of my garage. After that, it heats up fairly quickly. It heats everything in the room. I can turn the heater off and my garage stays warm for a few hours. Great heater.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Full of Manufacturer Defects I have a two car attached garage and was looking for a heater that could bring the temperature up to 60+ so that I could comfortably work in the garage. When looking at the different heaters, I came across this one, which was $100+ less than the next comparable unit. At the time, it didn't have any reviews and the next model up had nearly 5/5 stars. Since it had comparable specs, I decided to go with this unit and save some money. However, when I received the first unit, it was defective out of the box. It was clearly a manufacturer defect - the housing was sloppily assembled in such a way the unit was bent and the black finish was peeling. I returned it for another one, which was no better - the thermostat was defective and it had the same bent/deformed housing. I returned it and ultimately ordered the more expensive unit. I haven't received it yet and I never got to try out the defective units. However, assuming it is in line with the other reviews, I think it will ultimately be a much better unit. At the end of the day, you really do get what you pay for. Long story short, I would not recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good heater Only took about 20 minutes to install. Puts out a good amount of heat. Heated Garage from 25 to 65 degrees in about an hour and a half. Only thing that would improve this would be a thermostat with actual temperatures instead of circles going from small to big.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I would buy it again Heater does very well warming up my garage. The elec knock out is not large enough for a 1/2" connector. Heater comes wired for 5,000 watts if you want to change the watts to 2,500 you have to change wire jumper no selector switch.
