Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lorna THE BEST-QUALITY no doubt!
LOVE that "Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty" EXPANDS & BECOMES PART of THE WOOD & dries harder than wood!! COMPARED TO 95% of COMPETITOR wood/putty/filler etc I've used: THEY "SHRINK" & usually END-UP cracking w/LOOSE pieces of hard putty laying around or MISSING!!
DWP is A MUST-HAVE product: Why...
SHELF-LIFE: powder in nice container keep & use when need--NO DRY-OUT after 1st use (like PRE-MIX putty/fillers which r a waste of $ -dry out after open ..day or 2 and most r over priced).
EASY to MIX w/water: dries fast : yet, NOT too fast (depends how thick u mix a batch)
SO EASY to use!
CAN add a little white VINEGAR (1:3) to water & mix: SLOWS dry time a few minutes, then can CONTINUE applying USE ALL u mixed...unlike competitors!
BEST TO MIX small/med. AMOUNTS at a time (if put mixture in a cup approx. would fill up to 1/3-1/2 cup).
Need to USE the BATCH YOU MIX--approx. within 12-15 minutes--afterwards, starts to THICKEN (hardening)-can still use till mix becomes hard/dry/un-spreadable...SO, as the mix gets thicker-"STEP ON IT" & finish using THAT BATCH you're using. THEN can go mix another batch- JUST RINSE off tray (I USE Styrofoam meat tray to MIX/stir w/piece of wood (anything to STIR mixture) & I APPLY WITH putty knife...use whatever works 4 you)
I USE IT FOR repairs/patching esp. wood that is or WILL be PAINTED:
I SCOOP out w/ spoon 4-5 Tbsp of POWDER onto tray then ADD little white VINEGAR & add water (little MORE WATER than I put vinegar) & MIX it all together till looks LIKE PANCAKE BATTER (30-45 seconds).
IF NOT MIXING/mainly powder/won't stir: TOO MUCH POWDER just ADD more WATER!
IF TOO THIN then NOT ENOUGH POWDER: add more POWDER!
Easy to get "the hang of it" in very short time--within minutes!
AFTER APPLIED: let DRY 30 min.
THEN, I take WET-WARM cloth (wring out) & WIPE OFF EXCESS/EVEN-OUT the applied mixture...seldom sand (TOO MUCH dust).
LET DRY over night..MAY NEED to APPLY MORE NEXT DAY, IF see not even, cause filled DEEP AREA etc.
THE BEST WOOD PRODUCT I'VE EVER USED!
"In a class of it's own"
Durham's is "ALL EASY": everything about it is "user-friendly"-
BEING POWDER: can KEEP & USE for YEARS!
IF USE OUTSIDE: MUST prime/seal & paint...otherwise, product WILL FAIL if left "RAW"/EXPOSED in the elements.
PROTECT IT--no matter how/where you've applied it = many, many years of SUCCESSFUL project/repair etc
EASY water clean-up
PRODUCT been around SINCE 1932--an AMERICAN SUCCESS STORY (need to get back to more Americans making quality products like Durham's Water Putty-)!!
LOOK UP website & READ history,-- EXCITING!
MADE in U.S.A. from back "in the day" when quality & a man's word meant something :) "Assurance".
I found this GREAT PRODUCT, "briefly mentioned" in a blog? (rarely hear of it: instead MORE expensive with LESS shelf-life & QUALITY PROMOTED)...price was right so I TRIED IT!
NOW I'M a LOYAL CUSTOMER: THIS is how products SHOULD be MADE today WITH INTEGRITY, total quality & at a fair PRICE!!
EXCELLENT PRICE: Large can under $10--I think I pay under $8--fab!
This PRODUCT CANNOT BE BEAT--period! Total quality!!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by bummed Just don't plan on painting over it, if you live in the Mid-west.
At first I thought this product was one of the hidden great invention. This stuff seemed pretty tough and would stick to a lot of surfaces. Dries pretty quickly (so you may have to make many batches).
If you live in the Midwest and decide to PAINT over it. Watch-out, the next Winter my bring results in you stripping down and repainting the following season. I used it in multiple areas, including an area where I used exterior primer to cover then S.W. paint. In another area I just painted over with Sherwin Williams Duration. BOTH areas peeled right in the area where I applied this product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cf Works exactly as advertized. Best product for filling interior or exterior painted wood.
I've used this product since my father taught me about while repairing exterior wood trim on my first house 40 years ago! Absolutely the best product out there for patching woodwork prior to painting. Mixes with water, and dries rock hard, to a firm, sandable, paintable surface. People who have founds this product to be inferior clearly did not follow the mixing directions! Great stuff!

Bought this on-line. It looked the same size as a typical "plastic wood" can. Much to my surprise it is about the size of a half-gallon of milk. Better yet it is a powder that mixes with water. I've had my share of partially used cans of wood putty that end up dried out when you go back to use them for a second time. This product won't go bad!!! Used it to cover up some deteriorating exterior trim. Mixed well, applied without difficulty, dried nice and hard for painting. Quite pleased.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MissF I love this stuff.
I use this stuff for patching all holes and dings in the walls of my apartment because apparently the walls are made of sand and chewing gum. :/
It dries fast and lasts forever.
I am going to try it on repairing the nail holes in an old vintage sofa I am reupholstering, and I think with the added flex of the wood that I am going to try mixing it with both water and wood glue to give it a little more flex, as the product is very stiff when mixed with just water. If you need more flexibility out of your product for certain jobs I would try it, though it lengthens dry time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jack007repairs Amazing stuff. does exactly what it's name is.
This stuff goes in like water, so, seal up all your cracks. sets like a rock. prepare to pre-drill your holes. fills all the knoocks and crannies, then turns hard, hard, hard, Not brittle, like cement, takes screw threads w/o cracking. Adheres to every substrate I have challenged it with.... If, your wood is rotten, drill some holes, pound until the loose stuff is out. then fill'er up, better than new!! Love it!! Way cheap for what is does!! excellent performance!!
I leveled concrete stairs with this stuff( 1" thick) in 1991. I have moved but it is still there today (2012). I fixed door jams in rental houses, they are still swinging solid.. Still there.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Teknoman Best alternative putty for wood but still not up to par
The item is good if there are no other real choices for filling gaps and cracks etc. However we did have a hard time of it cracking or not hard after sitting for 48 hours and ended up using another product that got the job done. Its good for smaller fills but imo larger spaces up to 1/4 inch it doesnt seem to hold well.
