You can vary the height. With the vinyl attachment, there's an 11" clearance. Without the attachment, there is a 15 inch clearance. The five gallon horse water bucket I use, I leave the vinyl attachment on the machine.

The chute is about 12 inches off the ground. I laugh at the idea of attaching a catch bag. What I do is place a 15 gallon galvanized tub under the chute. The mulch is so fine that you need empty the tub every 15 - 30 minutes depending on how rapidly you feed it.

Does this work well for fall garden cleanup?

Most reviews address using this for wood. I was wondering how it will perform on fall garden waste like shredding corn stalks, sunflower stalks, old tomato plants, etc. My concern is these items are very fibrous and green and will get tangled in the blades like a rope. Please rely if you have used for this kind of waste.

Answer:
I've only used mine about 1 1/2 hrs, but it has groundup fiberous sunflower stalks, raspberry branches, and a evergreen bush. It has worked well with only one jamb and that was my fault trying to force a forked branch in the chipper shoot. My tomatoes are still producing so I haven't tried them yet. The real test will be wet ropy materials, not done any yet.

We have used this for fall garden clean up. The machine made short work of bush green bean vines and blueberry bush clippings (most of the pruning will be done in the spring, but I wanted to see how this would do with blueberry clippings). We have not tried it with tomato vines yet. We mulched common milkweed stalks, and various flowers such as Goldenrod. There was one variety of flower stalk whose name escapes me that shredded like string. This wrapped around one part of the cutting tool but did not jam the machine. Once I figured out that this was happening, I would stop the machine every now and then to cut this material away. After we cut everything, we are letting it dry for a couple of days. That greatly reduces the chance of a jam. Read Less

Answer:
Yes. A plastic bag can be attached with a bungee cord wrapped around the discharge chute but the material builds up under the chute pretty fast, so you have to keep adjusting it. It is much easier to put a bucket or box there and keep emptying it.

You could probably attach a bag to it, but the discharge chute is fairly low so you stand a chance of clogging up the chute if the bag backs up.

You could attach one to the knobs on side of unit. But with only 14" off the ground, if you remove black screw on extension, don't know how well it would work. I was able to force a 5 gallon bucket under it and then transfered to trash bags.

I don't think you could easily attach a bag as this unit is designed to drop chips on the ground. I also don't think it would do a good job on paper as it is intended for leaves and small branches

Could not answer on how it would shred paper, we use ours for tumbleweeds. We do take a large 44 gallon trash bag and put it on shredder with a bungee cord. And it works great for the tumbleweeds, slow but steady. We would put tumbleweeds in a large garbage container and smash them down with a tool my husband made. still would end up with 6 to 8 bags. Now with shredder 3/4 of a bag.
