Customer Questions & Answers

will the durostar 10000w generator stand up to heavy use as a back to an off grid solar system?

Asked by: gina
Gina, the 10KW capability is to allow for the surge current incurred, as for instance, when a motor first starts up. The 8KW is the running capability. That is a lot of capability, probably more than your solar system. However, you first need to know the output of your system and also the total watts you require. as for instance, lights, refrigeration etc, etc... Sorry, I just now noticed this info is almost a year late.

what does it mean no inverter what is the benifit of having the inverter

Asked by: marty
A "speed governer" regulates the RPM of an engine. An "Inverter" inverts the current from AC to DC (or vice-versa). In a sandby generator, an inverter module would take the fluctuating AC current being produced by the unsteady RPM of the Engine and invert it to steady DC. Once you get that steady DC output, the module again inverts it back to steady AC, for your Mains.

Does this unit have an hour meter? & does the battery come with it??

I can"t see an hour meter in the photos.
Asked by: SWVirginiaKid
It does come with a fully charged battery, which is remarkable considering the genset had been assembled almost a year prior to being purchased. It however, does not come with an hour meter. Not sure why one would be needed, unless it was going to be a rental unit.

Is the DS10000E convertable to Propane or Natural Gas?

Asked by: Al
Yes, there are kits available (research on Internet) that could make this generator "convert-able" to Propane or to Natural Gas. At that time you would have breached the Warranty Contract and your generator would not be covered under the Manufacturer's Warranty. Good Luck.

10,000-Watt Gasoline Powered Electric Start Portable Generator with Wheel Kit is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you need a 10KW genset and you can buy it on sale as I did, then go for it. Even if you don't... If you need a 10KW genset and you can buy it on sale as I did, then go for it. Even if you don't need 8KW running watts it is still the buy of the century. I found it to be extremely well designed with one exasperating exception. And that was in attempting to attach the negative battery ground wire. It is just impossible to slip a wrench in place to hold the nut. And of course without a gripping lock washer being included I had to make a 30 mile round trip to buy a few. The gripping washer allows the cap screw to be tightened without a wrench. On the plus side: much less exhaust noise than my old 5KW, which was under size, and it came w/ every needed plug configuration and also started instantly. Almost looking forward to our next outage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Goor machine at a Great Price Previous entries complain about the lack of documentation. Mine came with an owner's manual, like most machine do. The "owner's manual" tells you to hook up the positive batttery cable in order to get the electric start to work. It's shipped that way for safety. What else can they say? I even saw a YouTube video where some guy ran new wires to the 12v output to get the starter to work. All I can say - READ THE MANUAL!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor documentation Ok, so there are raves about the durostar ds10000e generator. I bought the generator and decided I wanted to use the electric starter. Alas could not find anything about how to hook up a battery to use for the electric start feature... There is an output that allow you to charge a car battery, but cant find any detail if this is also the input to the starter motor.... in fact I can't even find out if there is a starter motor on the durostar ds10000e. The operation manual is decidedly unclear on this issue. Can anyone help?
