Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works! After a house fire, basement walls were stained with black streaks from firefighting water run-off. Excess moisture in a normally dry basement caused wide areas of efflorescence, and odor was an issue. Tuff Grip seemed to be the product to solve a lot of issues, stain blocking, odor blocking, and a base coat for paint. Product info isn't hype at all: it did a fantastic job on all those! The product was fairly easy to apply; I rolled most of the basement walls, and finished some places with a brush. Second coat went far faster than the first. Walls were finished with Behr Foundation Sealer with EXCELLENT adherence. The product sold me on not needing to do way more prep work; I did wire brush efflourescence, but a major scrub of all walls wasn't necessary; I used a stiff broom on unpeeling walls. Other similar products recommended power washing, not an option in a basement. Tuff Grip seemed the least time-intensive and lives up to its name. It's a little pricey but worth it in time savings on prep labor. Project was completed two weeks ago and seems to be holding up excellently. Only one Con: this is supposed to be low VOC: NOT. At least not in a basement. We had to set up ventilation through a window because fumes were pretty intense. September 9, 2015
