Could this unit be mounted to a wall or floor?

Asked by: ktdid
Definitely not to a wall as the tank and back panel to secure it are rounded out from the back. The floor? I don't know. But the front rollers do lock to keep it in place.

Are THESE HEATERS SAFE IN HOME

Asked by: BILL
I would say it is a great backup to use in the home for an emergency. The unit itself is really about as safe as it can be. In fact the safety features are my biggest complaint, and they are probably the reason behind several reviews saying it doesn't work, or it stopped working. Sometimes lighting it is "tricky", and I blame the tip over switch when that happens - but it could be that I am impatient letting the sensor for the pilot light warm up. The only reason I have for not advising someone to use it in the home is the 25 lb tank of propane. If anything outside the control of the unit cased a fire, 25 lbs of propane is not something you want in there, and not something your fire fighter wants to discover. (But your insurance agent will be interested to hear about it) I have a home office (shed) and I use this in the winter months 5 days a week for nearly 2 years. I do turn it off overnight, and close the valve on the top of the tank, and I don't store any extra tanks in there with it. I dont know if you can find another portable heater that is safer, that can last for days without refueling ( when set to low ), that is odor free, and can crank out 18K BTU's when you need it to, and is as cost effective to run. One more comment is. remember to get your propane tanks filled from a filling station, and not to trade them in - you get 25 lbs at the LP station, but only 20 lbs (or less) if you use the tank swapping facilities.

This is an UPDATE to a previous review entitled "Simply will not light" entered on Jan 17, 2017. Yes, allow me to clarify... upon finally accepting the advice of my wife, I swapped out propane tanks and wouldn't you know it, the heater instantly came to life and has consistently been working the past couple weeks in my well ventilated garage. Heats very nicely when you use a propane tank that works! Apologies to the manufacturer for the initial poor rating, unfortunately I am not able to edit my prior rating, as confirmed by Home Depot Associate. Next time, listen to wife first!

Heats up the entire 2nd floor of my old home that doesn't have heat. There's barely any propane smell to it when it's on but you do have to be safe when operating this heater being mindful where you place it as it projects quite a bit of heat.

Set up and tested the heater prior to a couple of teen and sub teen days in case the electricity went. Can I say how stupid natural gas and propane furnaces are when the blowers do not work if the electricity goes out. Easy to assemble and it really does put out a wall of heat. The cats love it. Bought another one to put in the greenhouse.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst buy ever I ordered this item online since it was sold out in store. It worked great the first couple of months of winter. I rarely turned it on past the low setting. However it wouldn't keep the pilot light on towards the last month. This season, it will no longer light. I had no luck finding parts online and threw the thing in the garbage....

Very nice Construction Heater - like a construction site where the building is not closed up, that is what it says in the manual. Great for my drafty cabin. The gas fitting does fit onto the coarse threads of a standard 20 pound BBQ propane bottle except it screws to the inside fine threads, not the outside. The pilot light stays lit after 30 seconds according to the manual, although mine seems to stay lit after about 10 seconds. One tip - the wheels are not all the same. There is a bigger locking pair which go in the back and a smaller non-locking pair which go in the front.

I have purchased 12 of them in the last 2 years and 5 of them worked well enough to keep. Thanks to Home Depot's return policy, I am performing a much needed quality control service and it seems to be effective. If the pilot light does not stay lit after 4 seconds, take it back, it will only get worse. Last year, only about 30% of those purchased worked well enough to keep. This year about 80% of those purchased work well enough to keep. Well done!
