Product Overview

DC47 Animal has the latest Dyson cyclone technology - 2 Tier Radial cyclones. 32 inner cyclones arranged in two tiers work in parallel to increase airflow and capture more microscopic dust than any other. Because canister vacuums with wheels can be awkward to maneuver, DC47 Animal has Ball technology. The vacuum pivots on the spot with the pivot point located near the center of the machine. A spring-loaded cuff absorbs sudden movement to help the machine follow you as you use it. Axle bearings reduce friction, enabling the ball to rotate smoothly. This vacuum cleaner comes with an air-powered brush bar. Anti-static carbon fiber filaments remove fine dust from hard floors. Stiff nylon bristles remove ground-in dirt from carpets. The brush bar can be switched on and off for different floor types. DC47 Animal also comes with a combination tool and stair tool. These tools are stored on-board the machine for easy access. The adjustable wand handle are detachable - allowing tools to click-fit directly to the handle or the end of the hose for cleaning awkward places. DC47 Animal is one of Dyson’s quietest vacuum cleaners. It is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry and store. The clear bin is made from tough polycarbonate - the same material as riot shields and crash helmets. Bin emptying is quick and hygienic. DC47 Animal captures more microscopic dust than any other. It is compact, light to pull and follows with greater control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Feature I used my Dyson Animal Ball for the first time today and really like the smallness of the vacuum head because it can go into tight places unlike other vacuum cleaners I have owned in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what we need. Our Family: -2 Adults, 1 Child & 2 Boston Terriers Our Home: -1008sq ft [1st floor, not counting partially finished full basement] -Built around 1970 -80% Original Hardwood [About 10% of that has a rug(s) on it] -10% Linoleum -10% Tile First Dyson product. This little, powerful, canister is exactly what we wanted. I thoroughly researched what it can do/was built to do...after receiving it, it does exactly what Dyson says. Purchased Multi Angle Brush as well as Asthma & Allergy Kit in addition to DC47 Animal. Pro's: -Small, maneuverable, powerful, average noise for a vacuum, range of abilities with the accessories & ease of use. +Great feature: Pressure release, you will love this if/when the head snags on a rug or surprise object. Con's: -Only able to attach 2 extra tools to vacuum wand. [Flexi crevice tool & Soft Dusting Brush replaced what came in the box with the DC47] I acknowledge the price difference between Dyson & typical vacuums, however, I firmly believe you cannot find this level of quality/ability/polish for a lesser price. I want to point out that using a canister is FAR different than using a standard vacuum. Once I got accustom to it I don't think I'll purchase an upright again. Upon receiving this I vacuumed the entire house, which was done with our old vacuum the day prior. Usual story, the new Dyson found GOBS of dirt in our home. I generally clean one or two rooms a day, not typically doing a whole home cleaning in a single swoop. That fact allows the cord length & bin size to work well for me. The bin is easy to dump & easy to tell when dumping is needed. Sure it is smallish, but your home should never be dirty enough to have the bin size of the DC47 become an issue. All things connect logically & work well. I especially like the carbon head as I feel it cleans our hard surfaces well & far easier than using a broom. The Tangle-free Turbine tool truly is a marvel, works great on pet hair as well as human stragglers, I use this on our throw blankets & couch pillows. I highly recommend this vacuum if our family & home are similar to yours, best vacuum we have EVER owned. I also make these recommendations to Dyson on future models: -either increase the # of accessories that can be attached to the wand or place the 2 connectors on opposite sides of the wand. This would allow 2 of the wide accessories to be housed on the wand without interfering with another. Bottom Line: It works, it's easy & it makes sense. You cannot go wrong with this model, provided you do not have a massive home & plan to vacuum it all at once.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but... I purchased this machine because I am a pet owner, have hard wood floors and vacuum quite a bit. I have 3 large labradors, so dog hair is everywhere. I have had the DC47 for about 3 months and the suction is excellent, better than any other machine I have tried. However, it is advertised as an animal machine and falls short in some key areas for me. The cord really needs to be longer, as I have to unplug all the time. The suction head and joints have way to many small pieces and groves, as dog hair gets in and it is hard to get it out, this is key to longevity with dogs. The canister tips over quite easily, simply turning while moving from carpet to hard wood. The dirt container also collets hair in the grooves and seals, making it difficult to empty and clean. I try to keep my machines clean and free from hair as it can accumulate and cause the machines to lose efficiency. So far, the DC47 has done a good job and like I said the suction is very good, but time will tell on longevity. Certainly needs fewer places for hair to collect as static pulls hair into all the small places.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lightweight and easy to use I purchased to get rid of a monster upright that weighs at least 40 lbs. I have severe osteoarthritis, I have had 3 low back sugeries and I have OA in my neck and back, my hands, thumbs, knees, elbows and ankles. My spine surgeon has limited me to 20 lbs. or less. This vacuum, DC47, is lightweight I can lift it without back pain which is important. I vacuumed my living room and this machine picked up a lot of dirt that my upright obviously missed. The attachments are fantastic for cleaning the electronics:laptop, LCD TVs, the TV stands, printers, sound bar, the brush is so soft I could clean all these without worry of scratching. You need a light touch for your chachkies and it gets all the dust. I have no problem with emptying the dust bin, no problem getting the dirt out. I look at it this way;the more I have to empty that means the more it's picking up. My home is small and the canister needs no help getting around up and over the floor mouldings, no problem with tipping over. I have had both uprights and canisters, I prefer canisters. I don't need to move furniture, a canister with wand makes it possible to clean under anything without moving it. Overall I am extremely happy with my Dyson.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for a small house and allergy sufferers Overall I'm very pleased with my Dyson after years of battling with clunky machines that lose suction and require bags. As an asthmatic, changing the bag and having dirty air blow about was counterproductive and made it worse. No doubt, this product is expensive but I after only one vacumn with it I can see it will be a great investment Pros * Even though my carpet looked relatively clean before using my new Dyson, the amount of dust and hair in the cannister Collected was almost scary. This machine does its job! *After a bit of fiddling it's easy to assemble and switch the various heads around * I found the ten metre cord perfectly adequate living in a small two bedroom villa with carpet *It stores compactly and really easily after dismantling * The brush head doesn't get clogged with long hair - I was a little worried about this. Some cotton thread got wound around the bristles which had to be removed by hand but apart from this all hair (and I have a lot of long hair) was sent straight into the cannister. Cons * the cannister empty slider is a little tricky to use but I'm sure it will get easier with more use. I found the close and lock trapdoor mechanism a bit temperamental and needed a bit of force to close properly . * The on off switch and cord retractor switch is tiny. I like to turn my vacum off with my foot and this is impossible. *The brush head is a little small and therefore you need to do more sweeps but because it's small it gets into more places so it's also a pro!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great machine, minor issues. First off, this machine does what it claims. The No tangle hair tool is great, the cleaner heads capture tons of dust. I couldn't believe it. I've gone through several vacuums and this is my first Dyson and I'm very impressed. It works great on lots of surfaces, I've cleaned my interior car cabin with it. Great job all around. So far I have only a few minor complaints. Taking off the cap to unjam the cleaner head is horrible. No tool is provided and I called the support line they told me to use a quarter, so I did and it stripped the plastic. Within the first 3 hours of usage I had to unjam the cleaner head 4 times and each time I removed the cap it got stripped further. This cap won't even last a few months/days at this rate. The next problem is where the long arm attaches to the unit. It's a flimsy slide in mechanism that is useless. The concept is fantastic but they really need to make it lock into the vacuum with a latch/button/magnet/lock/click anything. The entire arm piecehad a great click-button attachment so why didn't they use that on the arm to main unit attachment? The trash container is far far too small, smaller than I expected. I have to empty it several times in an hour. Cleaning of the container and filter is simple and cost effective. But how do you clean the cyclones? ? The purple plastic cyclone part is filthy with dust yet you can not rinse or put water near it. So I guess leave it dirty forever? Get a brush and dig in deep? For a brand like this and such a high cost product I would expect it to have all these annoyances worked out during it's development. Maybe the next version will resolve the problems. Also, the width of the cleaner heads are small, doesn't cover too much area. Oh and a bit short on the power cord.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the Money We finally took the leap and bought an expensive vacuum. I had no idea my house was so dirty until I repeatedly filled up it's little waste compartment. The advertising makes a big deal about its maneuverability. That's only applicable for people with big open houses. For the rest of us that live in tight spaces it's not so easy going and has to be readjusted. Not a big deal. I spent all that money for a vacuum that would clean my house, not to effortlessly glide around my house.
