I am thinking of purchasing a DC59 vac. what is the difference between the DC59 Motorhead Plus, and the DC59 Animal?

I have no carpeting in house - which model would work better. also, how long does the battery last, and what is cost to replace battery for the DC59 stick? Do the attachments for the DC65 Animal fit the DC59? I just purchased a DC65 animal, as well as some extra attachments, but it is overkill for my needs. going to give to my daughter, who has 2 dogs. Somewhat heavy for me to use, but I love the power it has. Would appreciate answers soon. thanks so much.
Asked by: homemaker
Hi this is Jay with Dyson. With proper maintenace of the machine per the user guide, the battery will last for many years of use until a replacement is required. Many DC65 tools will work great when connected to the bin nozzle or wand of DC59. DC59 motorhead contains a direct-drive motor in the brush bar, centralizing weight distribution of the brush bar driving stiff nylon bristles into the carpet to remove ground-in dirt. The direct-drive motor delivers direct power - 75% more power than DC59 animal. If you do not have carpeting in the home, I recommemd DC59 animal. If you have any other questions please let us know and we will respond as soon as we can. Best wishes, Jay Dyson Customer Care

What are the differences between the DC44 model and the DC59 model?

Is there a noticeable difference in cleaning ability?
Asked by: MontanaGirl
Hi this is Jay from Dyson. DC59 offers 28 airwatts at Standard Power or 100 airwatts in Boost mode. The DC59 has 50% more power in boost mode than DC35 and DC44. DC59 also transmits 1.5 times more power than DC35 and DC44. If you have any further questions please let us know and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Best wishes, Jay Dyson Customer Service

Customer Reviews

DC44 Animal Digital Slim Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 2218.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Vacuum!! I have had this wand vacuum for 2 years. It is fantastic: portable, light weight, and very easy to handle and to clean. I especially love it for cleaning my carpeted stairs. It gets into the crevice and corners. It is my third Dyson vacuum, I also have the upright and a hand held and am very satisfied with all three.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Please put a locking mechanism on the trigger I LOVE this vacuum! It is the best for picking up dog hair! This is my second Dyson Animal. I specifically purchased the DC 44 because the run time is longer than my DC35. The 20 minute run time allows me to complete my daily vacuuming and has enough power to get up all the dust, dirt and pet hair in my house. I rarely ever use my large vacuum anymore. HOWEVER, I wish there was a locking mechanism on the power button. I have developed a nasty callous on my trigger finger from having to hold down the power button the entire time. That is my only complaint. I would gladly purchase another Animal if Dyson would add a locking mechanism.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea and design, poor engineering after repeated use wand extension tube becomes loose preventing proper battery connection causing shut offs. agitator brush becomes clumped easily especially if you have people who live in your household with long hair

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific and fun stick vacuum! The suction for this stick vacuum keeps my kitchen and kitchen throw rugs free of dust and animal hair, which is quite an accomplishment for a non-vacuumer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trigger Happy? I was going to write a review about the trigger but it seems that topic has been well covered. Now for the solution: Loop a rubber band around it - not enough to make it run, but enough to give you a squeeze assist. If you want constant run, they make rubberized, bendable, tie-wrap type devices - I use them for extension cords - these will keep you in constant on mode. Agreed, for $400 one would hope this would have been an option. Now the directions. I can read. I submit that anyone who can afford $400 for a cordless vacuum can also read. I appreciate the fact that the product is sold in many countries but for $400, print a manual in prose in a half dozen popular languages and include the pictures for everyone else...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fatal Flaw The Dyson DC44 is the most powerful vacuum cleaner I have ever used. My hardwood floors have never looked literaly picks up every speck of dust and the sleek design makes it easy to get to every spot and it's quick to finish an entire room. The absolute best for stairs and furniture. However... I would return it if I could because of its fatal flaw -- there is no on switch. You cannot finish a couch without switching hands because it's extremely uncomfortable to hold the button down the entire time. With such an innovative product with extreme suction it doesn't make sense that it would not include an on/off switch. Trust me... if I'm vacuuming... I want it on....especially for the amount of money I paid for this! I hope Dyson provides a 100% discount to everyone who purchased the DC44 when the new version with an on/off switch comes out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Promising, but not perfect To move the vacuum back and forth while keeping it running should be a trivial function, but isn't not. It gets turned off easily if you just let the pressure slightly off the trigger button. One has to re-apply force to compensate for the button's sensitivity, which stresses hand's bones and muscles. The end result is that this vacuum is not as ergonomic as it could be (and should be at the premium price). A small, but HUGE improvement would be to make the trigger "click" half-way, and yield easily after that, so that keeping it "pressed" requires very little pressure. I haven't used DC44 enough to comment on battery life, but the trigger button's non-ergonomic design is definitely worth -1 star.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Animal The fantastic thing is that it's like a dust-buster that actually works. The suction is great for touch-ups and it's easy to keep at-the-ready for quick use. Unfortunately, the focus groups did not suggest a more ergonomic hand grip, however, as it's very awkward to have your finger down on the square design. The finger rest is sticks out too far so that the finger tip (that must be held down to trigger the motor) is at a really uncomfortable angle. I can't imagine using the entire battery charge with that discomfort. In addition, as the trigger must be pressed the whole time, it seems to push my thumb joint up to meet the top of the motor compartment. It's a fantastic appliance except for this, and I only write because these corrections would seem so easy to correct; it would truly make this a perfect vacuum.
