Answer:
Not from what I can tell. There is a red lever that you press down and this opens a 'trap door' at the bottom of the clear collection canister and empties all of the debris VERY easily into your garbage...somehow without making a big dust cloud (a problem I've had with non-Dyson vacuums in the past).

I have no carpeting in house - which model would work better.
also, how long does the battery last, and what is cost to replace battery for the DC59 stick?
Do the attachments for the DC65 Animal fit the DC59?
I just purchased a DC65 animal, as well as some extra attachments, but it is overkill for my needs. going to give to my daughter, who has 2 dogs. Somewhat heavy for me to use, but I love the power it has.
Would appreciate answers soon. thanks so much.

DC59 motorhead contains a direct-drive motor in the brush bar, centralizing weight distribution of the brush bar driving stiff nylon bristles into the carpet to remove ground-in dirt. The direct-drive motor delivers direct power - 75% more power than DC59 animal.
If you do not have carpeting in the home, I recommemd DC59 animal.
If you have any other questions please let us know and we will respond as soon as we can.

Hi this is Jay from Dyson.
DC59 offers 28 airwatts at Standard Power or 100 airwatts in Boost mode. The DC59 has 50% more power in boost mode than DC35 and DC44. DC59 also transmits 1.5 times more power than DC35 and DC44.
If you have any further questions please let us know and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

DC44 Animal Digital Slim Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 2214.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Please put a locking mechanism on the trigger I LOVE this vacuum! It is the best for picking up dog hair! This is my second Dyson Animal. I specifically purchased the DC 44 because the run time is longer than my DC35. The 20 minute run time allows me to complete my daily vacuuming and has enough power to get up all the dust, dirt and pet hair in my house. I rarely ever use my large vacuum anymore. HOWEVER, I wish there was a locking mechanism on the power button. I have developed a nasty callous on my trigger finger from having to hold down the power button the entire time. That is my only complaint. I would gladly purchase another Animal if Dyson would add a locking mechanism.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun I'm a single guy w 2 dogs and 2 cats and dust bunnies gallore . This machine on one charge will wear you out and give you a mountain of nastiness to toss. Be sure and empty as instructed. Cordless untethered action makes cleaning a blast and the dogs love to get assaulted by contraption! Buy it !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed in length of battery life :( We owned the hand-held cordless vacuum for years that did not have the wand. After realizing that a wand attachment could not be purchased for our current vacuum, we opted to buy the DC44 Animal model. We have a dog that sheds and thought this would be a good choice for us. We have tile floors with area rugs so purchasing a large vacuum was not necessary. Our home is only 1900 square feet and I can only use this for two rooms at a time (for a total of about 10 minutes) before the battery dies. We keep it charged at all times so we should not be experiencing this problem. Another issue is that the vacuum gets clogged very fast with dog hair and will make a very strange noise before stopping all together. I have to detach the wand from the bottom and take a tool to remove any dog hair or dirt that has accumulated. I am so frustrated as we have spent hundreds of dollars on two Dyson products. I am now thinking I need a larger vacuum with a cord and honestly, I'm not sure I will be ordering a Dyson. I thought they were the best out there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DC44 Animal Review Overall I really like this vacume. It is a bit akward to use in comparison to other cordless hand helds, but it does a great job. I find the battery never lasts as long as I would like, but perhaps I ask too much from it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product We've had this product since 2012 and it looks and works as if I had just bought it. We couldn't be happier. We love Dyson products so much that we bought the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Five years and still a champion machine Today I bought two new Dysons. I have two other Dysons. The first I bought was the most expensive vacuum I thought I would ever buy. It is the big yellow ball vacuum. I think its a DC14 but not sure on the number. It was worth every cent. It is still a workhouse today after ten plus years of service. Then I purchased the DC44 five years ago. It is also a workhorse but in a different manner. Its the machine I grab to do a quick cleanup of a broken glass in the kithcen or a fast sweep of the back hallway after dragging in dirt from outside. I also use it to clean (don't tell the wife) my car, boat and my garage shop bench. Its really not my fault. I already had it out there to do the boat so why not do a little cleanup in the shop. Plenty of battery left when I got done with both jobs. I hate sweeping but grabbing the DC44 from the wall and cleaning the floors is a breeze. The engineering on it is so intuative that when it comes time to clean it up (so the wife doesn't find dried up fish bait or shop dirt) its a straight forward step to take it apart and snap back together. My kids think I am a bit nuts but I Love my Dysons. Wait until they come home for Christmas and see two more in the house.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, but after several years design flaw We have used this cordless vacuum almost everyday for the past three years. We have loved it in almost every way. Great suction, easy to use, good utility tools for both home and the car, and a really long runtime. However, after about two years of solid use, we noticed the battery starting to get loose from the bottom of the unit. When this happens, the vacuum cuts out. You have to push the battery pack back into its fully seated position for it to start again. It does this multiple times during a use. I finally got to the point of using strong packing tape to just hold the battery in place. I think the problem stems from how the unit comes off the charger base. I have the base hanging on the wall and to get the unit off, you have to pull out and up. This motion appears to be putting undue strain directly on the battery as it sits in the charger on the bottom of the battery. The repeated titling pulling motion I think has loosened the mechanism that keeps the battery attached securely to the unit. I think a redesign of how the unit is pulled out of the base\charger is needed so that this issue won't occur. Other than that, we would like to buy the latest model to have in our basement as well.
