Product Overview

DC65 is the most powerful upright vacuum on a ball, with twice the suction of any other vacuum. It uses Radial Root Cyclone technology and a reconfigured brush bar to remove more dirt and dust from the home. The redesign of the brush bar means that the bristles have been made shorter and stiffer allowing deeper carpet penetration to remove more dirt, while maintaining superior performance on hard floors. The DC65 cleans better than any other vacuum across carpets and hard floors. It achieves this through the combination of Radial Root Cyclone technology and a self-adjusting cleaner head which seals in suction across carpets and hard floors. The latest Ball technology allows easy steering into difficult places. More key technologies are housed inside the ball, reducing components on the outside of the machine. Removing clutter from around the ball makes it even easier to steer under and around furniture. Other vacuums have a choice of settings for different floor types. This means that when moving from one floor type to another, suction power can be wasted. DC65 has an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Suction tested against upright market to ASTM F558 at the cleaner head, dust-loaded as per IEC 60312-1. Tested against upright market, dust-loaded, using ASTM F608, ASTM F2607 and IEC 60312-1 5.1, 5.9.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can this vacuum be used on hardwood floor and laminate floor?

Would the floor be scratched? if it can be used on hardwood and laminate floor, which mode should be used? and what are the suggested ways to use the vacuum on these floors?
Asked by: owner
Hi Owner, It's Vince with Dyson. The DC65 Animal is designed to handle both carpets, hardwoods and laminate flooring. We recommend disengaging the brush bar when using the unit on hardwoods and laminates. We will be happy to provide additional details on the functionality of the DC65 via email at Best wishes, Vince P.

Does this new vacuum actually click into an upright position?

Asked by: jafrapatty
in fact it does and the sticker on the machine shows that you push it forward after returning to the upright position till it clicks and then it will stay.

Hello - does this model have a retractable power cord? Thanks!

Asked by: LeeAnn
Hi LeeAnn. It's Vince with Dyson. The DC65 is not designed with a retractable power cord. Two cable winders secure the powercord to the back of the unit for easy storage. We will be happy to answer any additional questions you have regarding the DC65 via email at Best wishes, Vince P.

Can I stop the suction in the upright position?

Hi! I just got this vacuum and love it, except one thing... when I click it into the upright position, it automatically starts sucking in the wand, which means it attempts to suck in my hand, hair, etc. because the wand is facing up at me. Any way to stop this? The DC25 had a solid cap, whereas this one has slots on top.
Asked by: GhostwriterJG
Not that I know of. The vented cap was probably designed to avoid sucking in body parts. I had one of the original Dyson models with the same feature only much more noisy. It's probably safest to turn it off.

Customer Reviews

DC65 Animal Upright Vacuum is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 1987.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Animal Owners Answer! This is a great machine for multiple pet owners - we have 4 small house dogs, 2 cats and 1 large very furry Australian Shepherd and can destroy average vacuums. This machine has great suction, doesn't "blow" all the loose fur around like previous vacuums I've use, and is super easy to clean. I blow all the dust and dirt out fairly frequently with an air hose when dumping the canister wash parts and filters every 2-3 mo. This is a terrific machine that is hardy, is versatile for carpets & hard floors, and easily switches to tool mode as needed. On top of ALL that, Dyson is an incredible company that stands by their machines and warranty - a breath of fresh air in the stale world of customer service! Thanks Dyson!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Comparison! This vacuum picked up two canisters full of dirt only a couple days after using my previous vacuum. Showing how much my old vacuum left behind! My old vacuum had a Hepa Filter but bothered my allergies after using it and left a nasty pet odor behind! The Dyson only seemed to leave a clean smell and was much quieter than my previous vacuum. It was also enjoyable to use and seemed to float along the carpet cleaning it better than I expected. I have had no allergy symptoms and my carpet hasn't looked this clean since I had them professionally steam cleaned!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded even our expectations! We already knew that Dyson is the king of vacuums and had always wanted one. We used our new DC65 today and were blown away! It is so easy to use! It took 99% less effort to use than our last vacuum and worked 10x better. It handles very well, it's extremely quiet, and works even better than we hoped. The features are awesome - switching from carpet to flooring was a breeze. We were in shock with how well the suction worked on the hard flooring. The attachments are awesome and work very well, too. What all of that being said, it was the first time we used it. I hope it will continue to work this well over the next few years. Bravo, Dyson. Bravo!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soooo Glad... ....I chose The Animal. If you are skeptical of positive reviews on a manufacturer web site as I was, have no fear. This is a machine in a class by itself. The excellent packaging was a preview to the attention to detail and precision of vacuuming as it should be. Everything you read here from happy Dyson customers is true. Powerful, quiet, easy to use with attachments that make sense and stay put during use, are a few of the reasons that makes this an easy choice. Go for it and have no regrets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DC65 Animal Complete This is my second Dyson which I purchased after having a second hand one for the past several years. Never in my wildest dreams would I have spend this kind of money on a vacuum cleaner, but I found that the used one worked so well beyond my expectations that would never have a different brand again. This DC 65 did not disappoint me either. Its cleaning power is second to none. I have only two small disappointments; one is that it does not store my most often used tools conveniently, and the other is that when using the want I really have to hold the main unit or it will tip over if i get any distance from. Overall though, I highly recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for pet hair! Theres a test to see if your vacuum is picking up pet hair. After you vacuum, use a rug shampooer (any kind) If you still get clumps of hair the vacuum is not working good enough. You can also use a gym shoe and use the bottom of the shoe to sweep the newly vacuumed carpet. I tried this with my old vacuum and sure enough, it didnt pick up the majority of hair. Then got the DC65 and while not a cheap vacuum, it did what it said it would do, and with the clear canister you can verify what a great job it does...with no bags get what you pay for...good job Dyson

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My New Dyson DC65 Animal Purchase First off, I never would have thought I would splurge on such an expensive vacuum, however, after reading your reviews, I just had to have one. I recently moved and my new home is only two years old. I have carpeting on my stairs as well as my entire third floor. There iare hard wood floors and tile throughout the rest of the house. Let me say there is a dog in the house that sheds quite abit. I decided to use my new Dyson on the main floor as well as on the two flights of stairs. The first day, I vacuumed my bedroom, the loft, then made it to about the fifth step and it shut off. I checked the troubleshooting options and realized it has a safety feature that it will shut off if it overheats. I waited over an hour then it started back up again and I finished the stairs. I emptied the canister at least three times and when it shut off on its own I checked both filters and they were fine. So I am puzzled as to why it would overheat. My friend wonders maybe I have a defective vacuum. I hope that is not the case. So I vacuumed the main floor again and once again it shut off and then again before I could complete the stairs. I suspect maybe its all the dog hair but not sure. I plan to continue to use it a few more times before I become concerned, however, it does seem odd that it keeps shutting off especially since it's bran new and I empty it as recommended. Hopefully, I will have a better outcome the next time and in the future. All that being said, my DC65 picks up great and I love the vacuum lines left. I just hope it shutting off is not going to be an ongoing problem.I will continue to give updates from time to time. Thanks, Dyson!
